IDW Publishing's Editor-In-Chief has announced a bonus feature that will be a store-exclusive for the "Transformers" DVD. One of the bonus features will be an animated version of the entire Movie Prequel miniseries from IDW Publishing.
Chris Ryall reveals that the feature will only be available on the DVD collection being sold at Wal-Mart. The animated version will feature voicework from Peter Cullen and others, says Mr. Ryall.
The feature will have "[g]ood sound effects, cool movement of panels and voices," Mr. Ryall describes. "[I]t's pretty awesome to see our comic turned into something like that. And having Cullen speak our words is an insanely exciting thing, too."
This revelation by Mr. Ryall may help clarify the news that Mark Ryan, voice of Bumblebee in "Transformers," revealed this in an interview last month that had recorded some new material for a prequel. Mr. Ryan said that the content will be included in the bonus features of the DVD release of the film.

How long was the prequil?
Given how expensive animation usually is to produce, I can't comprehend anything worth seeing being done as only a walmart bonus feature.
Hell I have a hard time conceiving of this only being a bonus feature to begin with.
I'm suspicious that as more info becomes available this won't end up up being anywhere near as impressive as it sounds.

Sounds cool, but there's a problem with this: When Walmart does there own "Extra Disc" editions, they are always on the one-disc version of the movie. Meaning to get this, you'd have to get the one disc version of Transformers and skip the "Multi-disc" edition. Quite pickle, especially when the Multi-disc edition is supposed to have it's own newly-produced "prequel" material on it that helps set up for the next one.
I guess you could buy both, and give the one-disc version away as a christmas present?

When the hell does the DVD itself come out. I want it already!
I think my local theater is still playing Transformers. Im gonna try to catch it one more time if possible.
The sounds are just too awesome.

With the statement of "cool panel movement", I'm reading that this is NOT a basic animation that people are expecting, but a form of the comic on DVD...with voices and maybe some minor fluid animations within each comic frame. I'd like one, but I'm not getting overly excited as I already own the comic version.

If the prequel cartoon comes out only for the 1 disk version, all you have to do is just buy the two disk version and then wait for the animation to come out on youtube or stage6 and then just watch it there (or, if you are naughty, download it). That way you get everything and don't feel "ripped off", especially as things like this should, by rights, be on the 2 disk version.
I have a feeling that the "animated" cartoon with just be a camera moving between panels of a static comic with some SFX and voice overs. If that's so then its not even worth picking up.

My sentiments exactly (on the previous two post, concerning the statement "cool movement of panels"). While this still might be interesting (to those who never purchased the prequel comics), there's a few things to look at here. One, will the Wal-Mart disc be different (less content, different aspect ratio, etc.) than the normal DVD release. Two, if the first point is true, and it's just a tactic to sell more Wal-Mart discs, then this truely is just a cheap gimmick.

You know...being in the DVD industry, I'm sure I've got friends out there either working on this disc, or know fellow authors working on this disc. I'll do some investigating, and see what I can dig up about the 'Wal-Mart' release...

SPOILER ALERT, VERY SLIGHT AND HARDLY WORTH MENTIONING:
I read the prequel book by Alan Dean Foster, but I never saw the comic. Is the comic the same story as the book? (Meg's move to Nevada, and an Earth ship based on Meg's T-former tech blown through a wormhole and discovered by the rest of the T-formers)
If they are the same story, then there wasn't really much to it, and I'd much rather get the 2-disk set with MOVIE special features, not this animated comic.

There's already one thing wrong with this thing to begin with: its at walmart. It'd be much better if they sold it at target because every exclusive that's been there i've seen in every target i went to. At walmart, i never saw any.
BTW, the comic was actually not too bad. And it definately caused Megatron's movie design to grow on me. (spoiler warningg) The comic pretty much highlights in detail the event during which prime sent the allspark into space and how Megatron tried to go after it after destroying bumblebee's voice box. It also portrays how Archibald Witwicky finds megatron and goes insane with visions of the future, how he gets shut up in an aylum, how sector seven puts megs and the allspark into hoover dam, and how the decepticons/destrons come to earth and change into earth style vehicles (protoforn starscrean, arcee, protoform prime, a sort of protoform bumblebee, and swindle apear in more detail.

Okay, this sounds MUCH more in-depth than the prequel novel. Some of that plot was in the book, but but not nearly all of it.
Now I'm wondering if I should go ahead and get the animated comic Maul-Wart exclusive...
