BotCon '07 Convention Set Preview V: Dreadwind

By bwbm on Thursday, May 03, 2007 @ 06:35:16 AM

The Transformers Collectors' Club has revealed Dreadwind, the last figure of the BotCon 2007 "Games of Deception" set. The remolded head is sculpted by Transformers comic artist Dan Khanna. The mold for this figure is the Classics Jetfire. The other figures featured in this set are Dirge, Thundercracker, Thrust, and Bugbite.

Alright, that looks pretty damn cool to me. I'm glad they remolded the head a la G1 for him. Still, not worth $300 for 5 figures IMO...

I like it a lot. But now I want Darkwing done as well even if they couldn't join together anymore.

OK the white and purple colors work better on the BugBite figure then on Dreadwing.

If it was name after a Seacon, then i can understand the bright colors

They should made the colors on him way way darker cause 4 it 2 be a Decepticon, He 2 D-mn BRIGHT.

Bummer he's too white, looks good otherwise. Of course, now everyone will want Darkwing

I like but I dont think this years botcon will do so well and this can either do well on toys or bad. either
A)no one buys or very few, so they sell them out at cheaper price
B)few sold so few left so later down the line in a year or 2 gona be higher priced

(Taking a brig breath ands summon strength to make a possitive review bewcause i've almostt lost interest in anything tf....)

looks fine. the backpack looks odd on him but i'm digging the choice of mold. i love the remolded head (the way EVERY repaint must be done if hasbro expects me to put money on their pockets!)

G1 Dreadwind had a predominantly white body with purple limbs and accents, so I'm not sure what you're all complaining about. Not that I wouldn't prefer a darker colour scheme overall too, but the colours aren't that far off from the original.

Yeah I don't get what other people were expecting. We knew it was using the Jetfire mold, we knew it was going to be Dreadwind. It looks as anyone with any common sense would expect but the remold head is a bonus.

This has to be the first year where I've actually wanted the Botcon exclusives. Bugbite's the only dodgy one but even then I wouldn't mind owning that one anyway. The Classics mold's chosen are all superb.

Well after reviewing what the original Dreawind looked like I'd say it's spot on, color wise and head sculpt wise. I just don't care for the obscure character or the colors on that mold. Just my opinion. I do think that people that are fans of the character might be happy with them and more power to those that can afford these.

But the idea that the BotCOn exclusives will fail if no one buys them is crap because I'm sure the scalpers will get there hands on as many as possible to put them on ebay a year from now and sell them for at least double the cost.

Heck, if I were going to BotCon I'd buy two sets just so I could sell the second set later for double to make up for me buying the overpriced set to begin with

This is why I said it was a little too white: http://www.cobraislandtoys.com/tf/1988/dreadwind.html Overall, I think it's a great choice for a mold and overall a nice representation. The head sculpt is dead on. I also agree that if Hasbro is gonna do remolds, this is the way to do it.

ShadowStitch,

If by failure you mean sell more sets of exclusives before the show then they have up until now, you're absolutely correct.

They've produced more sets this year than any year in the past and there's only about 100 sets left.

Using this mold as a 'con, it SHOULD have been Darkwing, with dark grey, purple and blue coloring. The mold itself far more resembles Darkwing, as Darkwing was the one with the adjustable wings, not Dreadwind. Someone dropped the ball on this.

About the figure being Darkwing instead of Dreadwind because of the wings. I agree with that, but Dreadwind had the cockpit on his chest, I think that's what they saw when they looked at it. Except that light green coloring just doesn't seem right to me. Maybe because, I'm so use to the seeing the light blue on my figure. I wish I could get this set, but I think I'll just take my 300 and double it and go buy a Grandus off eBay and hook him up to my Star Convoy. Hasbro should have some type of voting poll for recoloring figures. Just have a black and white picture of the figure, and then a list of let's say 5 names that could resemble that figure. And just let fans vote online or by mail til a certain deadline. I'd jump on a chance to do that. I heard that there's going to be a special villian TBA at the convention, any ideas on who?

I can tell you for a fact that Ive never and will never buy a Botcon repaint. They are overpriced and not worth the money.

If Hasbro and Botcon sort out their prices and make them easily available then people will buy them. Obviously a product should be a little bit exclusive, but then again, thats what e-hobby are for (providing they get off their lazy Japanese hides and actually answer emails).

Botcon just doesnt cut it.

Good luck Hasbro and Botcon- You are both going to need it!
