BotCon '07 Games of Deception Set Preview: Dirge

By bwbm on Thursday, April 19, 2007 @ 03:04:26 PM

The first preview for BotCon 2007 is Dirge! As previously reported, the convention exclusive set for this year's convention will be the "Games of Deception," which will include molds from the "Transformers: Classics" line with the Decepticon Seekers Dirge, Thrust, Thundercracker, Dreadwind and Bugbite.

Motto: "Talk all you want loser! The only sound you make that I'll listen to is a death rattle."

Unfair. Perhaps I'll just have to buy another Ramjet and attempt to repaint him. There's no way I'm buying that whole expensive set for a figure that should only cost $10.

No remoulded wings? B*st*rds.

This has really frustrated me. Obviously Hasbro are gonna want to sell this set and to make a set sell you out desirable figures in it. But to release half of a very popular sub-group on general release and then make the other half part of a extremely highly-priced box set is very annoying. I know companies need to make money but I can't help but see in my mind's eye an image of Hasbro executives smiling as they came up with this "fantastic" idea. As with all things like this, the best way to protest is to not buy the set. But there will always be the fans who cry out "ZOMG! I must get teh gift set so as to appear as the most hardcore Transfan ever!!!!". It's a great shame.

FYI Hasbro and Fun Publications are TWO separate companies. Don't blame Hasbro for something they did not do!

D*mn it, give Dirge and Thrust their proper wings or the fans will be in uproar. Its not like doing new wing molds is harder or more expensive than new head molds.

I may want them, but no way am I spending that much for those figs.

At least the colors are correct. In all honesty, I didn't expect a complete wing retool. However, if they don't put the VTOL fins on Thrust THAT would be an insult.

Who wants to lay bets the VTOL fins will be a sticker or paint app versus an actual wing remold?

What type of paints and colors would one use to repaint Ramjet exactly like that?

I must say, its a nice paint job for Dirge, but unfortunetly without a retool for the wings, added that with the high price they asking, not worthed.

Oh, how the tables have turned.

All the botcon disciples, touting their vaunted 330$ Exclusive Figure Set... and the end result is sure to be a handful of crappy repaints, likely without a new mold among them. I can't say I'm TERRIBLY surprised, but I AM relieved.

This means that anyone with a can of paint and a little patience can now make their own 'exclusives,' and when some talented fan resculpts and remolds the wings properly, the fanboys who like to show their fandom by waving their pocketbooks around will see what being a TRUE fan is all about.

Given that this is clearly an overpriced repaint set and the collector's club is a joke, I urge everyone to voice their discontent with both on Hasbro's survey @ http://www.hasbro.com/common/surveys/hasbrocollectors/hasbrocollectors.htm
They want feedback, let's give it to them. I'm not paying +$300 for lousy repaints that should retail $10 a pop and neither should anyone else. Doing so says they can sell us crap because we will accept it at a high price as well.

Not too bad...but the Collector's Club are still b@st@rdos! You know, I'm not as 'blown away' as I thought I might be. For one, I'm not crazy about the shade of blue...seems like it needs to be a little deeper blue. Also, not crazy about the 'blacked-out' face (I think it'd be fine left alone). I have to say the wings are nice looking (even though they're not remolds). All in all, I'd encourage everyone to go buy a $10 Ramjet, and get creative with some paint! I think your sense of accomplishment will be immeasurable compared to the depression of spending over $300 dollars for this set! That's my plan...

Decent paint apps (black may not be G1-esque, but it's an interesting touch), but if this was all they were gonna do and not remold the wings, totally useless. I'm not that handy with a brush, but I could've done this. Not that they aren't a complete waste of money at $300 for a set of 5 anyway.

Just wait: I'm SURE Takara, when they get around to releasing Classics in Japan, will repaint/remold the seakers and sell them either via shops or e-hobby.

Just wait and dont buy them...or do a kitbash of your own.

I've got to follow the majority on this one.

This blows huge chunks.

It's bad enough to drop three bills on this upcoming set but for ***** sakes, change the damn wings. How ***** tough is that!!!!!

Did anyone in the higher ups know or even give a damn on what they were doing. Ramjet, Dirge and Thrust have different wing spans you ***** morons!!!!!

I was looking forward to this release and even considered dropping the money for it but now I don't know. They really let us all down on this one.

Power on.
