Classics Devastator vs. Energon Constructicon Maximus

By Protoform-S on Saturday, January 27, 2007 @ 07:01:10 AM

Filipino Transformers Community Cybertron Philippines has gotten hold of a Classics Devastator. We have also mixed and matched the limbs to give Classics Devastator the G1 look. We were wondering how this exclusive compares to the Energon Constructicon Maximus. Here are some pics.

I have ti say I am pumped for it. You think they might make a Classics Superion repain to?

I wouldn't count on the Superion repaint. But with Hasbro, you never know anymore.

I'd buy this if I didn't already have the Energon version.

Seriously though, Hasbro--rather than rehashed/repainted back stock, how about a NEW updated combiner group like the Stunticons, Predacons, Protectobots or Technobots? No better time than Classics...

This toy suffers from being a repaint of a bad mold. There is nothing classic about this P.O.S. Doesn't even look like devastator... :(

Does the repaint look better? Definitely

Does it warant a reissue? Not to me

When will Hasbro learn that rehashes from a past issue are just tacky?

The key part of the classics line is that they are G1-esk styled figured with an updated look/design.

This thing is not styled anywhere near the original Devastator. I'd have given them a minor pass if they made a head that looked anything like Devy's but this is not even close.

I was soooo looking forward to this figure until I saw the pics way back when. The first, and hopefully, only failure in this line of toys. HasTakTomy should continue what they've been doing and bringing out fresh, new designs and stop recycling old lines and molds just to fill shelf space.

I think is at least closer to what the fans wanted than that terrible Energon version. I even passed up the Japanese version boxed set to wait for the USA Classics version.

Although I like the black with green striped legs, I was hoping for at least all green constructicons. I dont care if they are the same mold.

But truth be told, I wasn't impressed with any of the energon combiners. Making two identical bots for each limb..effectively being a repaint itself BEFORE it was even released.

However, if they had just painted them all the same green, but in different ways and then remolded the silly head..then it might have been close to a classic eh?

I think I'll buy one just to mix my Energon figures in with him. Like hook up all the cranes and make him have a Machine Rescue Robo feel.
