First Look @ 'Animated' Optimus Prime; New Info On Show

A first look of "Transformers Animated" Optimus Prime have surfaced up on the internet. According to the gallery owner's naming conventions, these scanned articles are from the "Licensing International Expo 2007" that started today and runs until the 21st of this month. The two scans, other than showing off the look of the new 2-D Optimus Prime, also reveal some new, albiet contradicting information on the new Hasbro and Cartoon Network-partnered show.
According to article scan, the show will start in January 2008 airing as a Saturday morning series on Cartoon Network and will expand to "five times a week later in the year." However, the scanned flyer seems to contradict the article. The flyer reads that the series and toyline will begin in "Spring 2008" with the full licensed roll out that summer. Which one is actually accurate is unknown at this time.
The article quotes Transformers Director of Marketing Michael Verracchia as saying that the show will be supported on TV and "through Web-based initiatives, product partnerships, and promotional partnerships."
No new characters have been revealed in the article or the flyer and only lists "Optimus Prime, Megatron, and a host of new characters."

"Transformers Animated" will be developed by Executive Producer Sam Register (Teen Titans); Line Producer Vincent Aniceto (Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends); Head Writer Marty Isenberg (X-Men, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles); and Lead Character Designer Derrick Wyatt (Teen Titans).
Previously announced voice actors include Tom Kenny (Starscream), and Tara Strong (Suri).
Previous rumors include Frank Welker-confirmed Corey Burton (Megatron) and David Kaye self-proclaiming he will portray Optimus Prime.

Let me guess the premise of the show is that the original 7 Autobots form a band and battle the decepticons via Guirar Hero II, until they are forced to join forces and and stop Jossie and the ***** Cats and the Thundercats from opening a black hole and allowing Unicron to start Universe Idol.
There is no way that the animation is going to work. I have watched Armada, Energon, and Cybertron and gotten over the slow moving plots, Kicker, and forced story line in Cybertron but this I wont even set the DVR for, I dont care how good the writting is.

Umm, hmm....
Well, if it animates like Clone Wars, it could still be quite cool. I'm not writing this off yet.
But, again, my biggest concern is the toys. No way a Prime with those proportions could be a transforming toy. Now, maybe they could "calm the design down" for the toys, but if they did that, he would be indistinguishable from G1 Prime. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, I suppose...
Gotta keep an eye on this one. I admit, it's troubling, but no reason to jump to the worst conclusions.

This is just bad comedy. I never liked the movie designs but I have sort of grown to accept them. This however saddens me. I had forgotten that this is being done by the same people who did Teen Titans and Ben 10. If I had remembered this wouldn't have been such a shock. At least I still have my G1 DVD sets and Headmasters through Victory on VHS. Even though I never really got into the recent series I like the designs for the most part.

This is what ya get for havin' yanks animate a cartoon show. Simply put, american animation has not been good since the 90's. Give it back to japan, least then we would get top class animation and a decent story too.
Better still, let korea animate it like with the new TMNT.
(I'll give this show a miss for sure lol, sod that crapola. That show wont sell any toys, and will be a blow to hasbro as their stratagy to get tf into the main stream will suddnly explode...idiots)

i wouldnt say this is going to kill transformers. it fits the style of the most popular shows out there. sadly, i rather this animation and good story line over the 3d animation of the last three serries and a piss poor story line. if they get the toys to work and look like this and transform it would be interesting, but who says there will be toys, it could just be a filler serries so they dont got 2 years without a cartoon serries.

Holy Cartoon Network, Batman! That "Samurai jack" Style could work for the Star Wars Characters of Clone Wars, NOT for a series of Japanese Mecha robots!
I prefer Car Robots TV series. (robots in disguise) that one was the returning of the original TF concept after the BW disaster. This one has totally missed the north.

It looks like they got the Samurai Jack studio to do the artwork. Which while awesome for Samurai Jack, and Star wars, is aweful for transformers. I am scared now.

Oh God, these are hands down the worst TF designs ever. I'll admit I didn't care fot eh movie designs at first but sooner or later theys tarted working for me (espeically with the quality of the CG). This crap however is unacceptable, it's got screwy proportions and attrocious depth in animation.
This certainly doesn't help refute my position that american animation si going downt eh tubes (with only a few exceptiosn here and there). I was skeptical enough about this show when they gave it its name (Animated? Like Transformers was never animated before?).
Hell, I showed this to my mom who saw teh originals back when I was a kid and her first response was "Why does Optimus have a gorilla face?" My girlfriend who I only introduced to the show a few years go was equally appauled.
If this really is what prime will look like then I'll probably skip on this one.

I think young kids will like it, especially those who already are hooked on the cartoons on Cartoon Network as it is. Us "older kids" will probably just ignore it and keep watching the old stuff until we burn up all of our DVDs from overuse! :) Actually, I couldn't even afford the DVDs of the original Transformers cartoons as it is, so I guess I'll just have to rent the DVDs until the video store cuts me off!! :)

OK, so theres a single picture, its so bad it cannot possibly be an example of the animation standard drawing, maybe its just a quick promo sketch (bad one at that). What im not understanding though is how a single sketch opens so much speculation on the toy line that WONT transform, now hasbro might make some off decisions but to have the core TF line NOT transfom is ridiculous unfounded speculation, to extrapolate this images blocky nature to somehow mean its impossible to create a transformable toy is total nonesense. Had it shown a highly blocky undetailed TOY, i might have been more convinced that it couldnt transform, but come on guys, lets just hope hasbro throwns some 'damage control' pics our way.

Yay! I'm glad you were able to make it happen for us! Obviously it wouldn't the influence of those who didn't like the original movie designs that would bring something crappy like this. If it wasn't for those who didn't like the original movie designs, they wouldn't have been modified into what they look like now.
But yeah, this is horrible. The good thing is that the toys will probably look bad as well and I can finally save some money by not buying the new Transformer toys.

Now, for a half-assed conspiracy theory:
This pic is damage control for the movie for the final stage of the build up. It does not actually represent the series Optimus Prime design. Look what's happened? Everyone is saying "and I thought the movie designs looked bad, but this thing is atrocious?"
So when we come out of the movie in a couple of weeks, we'll say, "Well, I've made my piece with the new designs, especially since it's no where near the crap of TF:Animated Prime."
Then, in a couple of months, pics from the new cartoon and the toys will leak, and they won't look anything like the above Optimus pic. and Hasbro will say something like that was a "just kidding" promo sketch.
I don't actually believe this is the case, but it is a half-assed conspiracy theory.

personally, I don't much like the face, but it's not all bad.
What we have here is a "fast-paced action" design that's easy to draw and thus very dynamic. It reminds me of the art style from Samurai Jack and the Clone Wars animated series. Those made very clever use of simple shapes and light variations and they both looked fantastic.

Takara goes down and is bought by Tomy, who seem to have told them to release some terrible toys (padophile Prime and chums Binaltech and StarsGREEN), and meanwhile, over the oceans, Hasbro sold their souls to Bay and chums who have started to make "Short Circuit in Space" featuring giant, blown-up "Number Johnny Five's".
