As long as I can remove each and every one of these silly "batman chinny-chin-chin" square-jawed heads and pop on a classics head or two, then Im happy.

Otherwise...meh.

What a waste of time. These are such a big step back in terms of design. The movie was starting to bring TF toys up to a decent standard and now we're back to this kiddy crap. It's a damned shame if you ask me. At the very least, I won't have to spend so much money keeping up on these.

Yeah, still not happy about the caricaturized faces...especially the Jay Leno chins. Stylized toys work on a certain level with certain characters/properties. On the cartoon side, I honestly think they are alright...from the toy angle of it, I hate it. I'm still somewhere in the middle ground on whether or not I'm gonna buy any of the new Chinformers or not.

Yeah, the silly faces take from the overall coolness, but I love the designs nonetheless.
There will be more movie style Transformers being released, and even more over the years as sequels come out, but these animated toys are cool because the make great vehicles, and somehow transform into robots with very little kibble hanging off them. I appreciate that they can make an animated cartoon style action figure become a realistic vehicle.

Interesting packaging...

While I agree that the heads are... different... I'm not going to let one little element stop me from enjoying these figures. A step backwards towards kiddie fare? DUH, THESE ARE KIDDIE FARE! For crying out loud, accept that for the most part TF IS for kids!

My take on these things-

I agree the movie tformers were a great step forward. The first non alternator Tformers in many, many years to actually resemble real vehicles, and the best thought out, most aetheticly pleasing robots possibly ever. So compared to those they aren't as cool.

But for what they are, the animated toys are still very cool. I'd have to say they surpass just about everything Tformers has done in a long time except Movie and Alt/MP figures. I won't be buying any of these, but I think they're respectable, imaginative, well designed entries in the line.

I am curious to see if the new cartoon and toys will perform more on par with previous cartoon/toy lines, or if they'll be able to cary over the excitement from the movie. The cartoon certainly won't have the same wow factor (and I think THAT was what made the movie such a hit, it certainly wasn't the story, writing, directing or acting- hell, the new cartoon will probably be superior to the movie in those respects).

Back to the movie Tformers and alt's. I've pretty much not even bought any of the non movie movie t-formers. The designs just aren't as strong and we're begining to sink back into the vague generic vehicles that kind of resemble something. I may buy some of the metalized ones depending on who they do and how well, otherwise I think my movie collection is done until the next movie (unless we get those leader classes we ALL want).

Even the movie figures frustrate me. I think the over all designs are superior to the Alt/MP figures, but the execution is inferior. So the Alt/MP are still the best tformers ever. The only things I collect are the alts and the movie figures. So if we don't get any new MP molds I may be done with all of this for a while.

I'm still fantasizing about a handful of Alt style movie figures (ideally all in the same scale as the alt's- 1/24th). I know the vehicle interiors will have arms an legs inside instead of sea

Bob, I don't think that all of the movie designs were well-thought-out, especially as they *first* designed some bots and *then* some ILM guys had to figure out how to make them transform in CG and *then again* some other guys had to make working toys out of that stuff.
and most of those toys had to use faked bodyparts, simply look at jazz' feet with the faked wheels for instance.
the 08 camaro bumblebee is the only one that really worked well.

but i guess that these animated designs are focussing on smaller children. just as the fast action battlers. there will also be a more sophisticated line of designs, i'm sure.

Tom Prime,

I'm of two minds of this.

I have complained before, and it does bother me a bit how much "cheating" did go on. Expecially with robots like Frenzy- We do know that one and a few others were designed with no idea what they'd even transform into. I don't think there's any way a mechanical replica of Frenzy could ever be built that would actually transform into the boom box. He really may just as well morph into michael jackson. Given Bay's whining early on that "these things had to really work", such an approach is downright insulting. So it still bothers me some. I don't like all the movie designs either. I'm not a fan of Ratchet, Jazz, Baricade, Megatron, Frenzy (I feel like I'm missing one more). That's around half of them- not a spectacular ratio.

I prefer leader Class Optimus prime to the one in the movie (although I wish the toy was a bit more detailed).

But I did say I was impressed with the movie designs, and this is why- first off, I think it's a very strong raw aesthetic they went with. Bumblebee is an excellent example- how many times have we seen the autobot with the door wings before? I can't even begin to count. Yet there is something very fresh lean and exciting about the way they did it here. I think the bottom line is that ILM simply has stronger, more talented artists working for them than hasbro. It makes sense that the best of the best are more likely to gravitate toward movies than toy design.

What I really like about these things though is that they have so many more tiny parts than any transformers before them. I don't exactly mean hinges and joints. A great example would be to compare BB 08 to Alternator Meister (since they're both on my desk in front of me), and both are more or less takes on the same body style (door wings, hood chest, etc). Jazz's chest (hood section) is basically one large piece with an opening for his head to come out. BB 08 has about 6 different smaller independant

I like the fact that the animated toys look just like the cartoon. While I love how the cartoon will look, the toys are not doing it for me. They are kiddy fare, and thats okay, but I personally don't collect toys that look like they were made for first graders.

I like the movie designs, I LOVE the movie, and I think the movie toys are awesome!! The most original take on transformers since the car brothers from TF:RID. I like that Hasbro is making new toys that turn into real vehicles (not including Megatron although I do like him.) I mean, we've had 3 years of futuristic neon colored TF cartoon toylines. So its nice to have Hasbro's main TF focus be on something more credible alt modes. Now don't get me wrong, I thought the Cybertron line was badass and the Deceptions from the Engeron line were awesome. (The only Autobots in that line worth buying in my opinion were the Omnibots, Bulkhead, Landmine, and Omega Supreme.)

Anyway, my point is this animated toyline is good for the youngsters. But me, I'm only buying movie figures, G1s, and classics. I don't want to sully my collection with kiddie-formers.

The only toys I've bought are Robot Heroes and other little ones of characters that I like, such as 3" Titanium series and Movie Legends, but I can't justify spending more than maybe $10 on toys... at least right now. I also like the fact that the Animated toys look just like the cartoon counterparts. The Animated designs just work like that. So even though I'm likely to not buy them, they kind of get my respect that way.

The only thing about Animated that gets me is how they're making Prowl a ninja. I mean, come on, "circuit-su"?

Circuit-Su is actually a canonical Cybertronian form of Martial Arts (alongside Crystalocution, Metallikato, and Diffusion). The name dates all the way back to G1--I think it was Bugly that used Circuit-Su, while Bludgeon was a Metallikato master and Banzai-Tron (actionmaster) was the premier Crystalocution practitioner.

to me the chin factor isnt a big deal at all, the figures look hella awesome!!! i cant wait till these come out, the fact that all of them(i think) are show accurate is something that im looking very forward to seeing.

you also have to keep in mind that this isnt a step back, these figures are based on a cartoon that is being aimed at for KIDS. Hasbro is trying to aim more for the younger generation to inspire them to carry on the transfomers collector genre. I think Hasbro is doing the right thing by doing this. Also there are other figures that are coming out that transformer fans can get instead like the new classics that are coming out as well as other movie figures probably.

im buying this whole line for sure!! im really hyped about soundwave, but the guitar thing is kinda too cliche.

LOL, now everyone LOVES the movie toys, and calling them the best TFs in years. I can remember a year ago when everyone was saying the movie toys were eyesores and they were going to skip the line altogether.

The Internet does NOT reward people with long memory.

True that, isn't it? I'm half/half on the movie figures myself. Some (like 08 Bee) are great. Others (like Leader Megatron) are duds. I think the TF:A figures are looking pretty good. If all these folks wanna pass on it, that's great. More luck finding them for me.

Then again, this could be a secret ploy to throw off the scalpers...
