Furman Shines Some Light On ''Spotlight: Blaster''

By bwbm on Monday, October 01, 2007 @ 09:54:33 AM

Simon Furman has coughed up some information over at his blog on one of his recently announced books "Spotlight: Blaster." IDW Publishing editor-in-chief announced this book last week with newcomer Emiliano Santalucia on the penciling duties.

What Mr. Furman unveils is that Blaster will be not be just the cartoon version or Bob Budiansky's Marvel version, but "an amalgam of the two with a new twist." You will see two versions of Blaster, a before and after version, he says.

A before and after of what? Well, "let’s just say there’s an element of murder/mystery (without the murder per se) about this particular Spotlight," Mr. Furman teases. "[A]s a killer (and perhaps even a traitor) stalks the Autobot Command Hub, out [to] finish something they started a while ago." He says that the book will explore who the real Blaster is once his "larger-than-life bluff and bluster" has been stripped away.

Mr. Furman also hopes that this book will satisfy the people who felt that the Optimus Prime and Galvatron Spotlights were not self-contained enough books. Source: Simon Furman: the Blog

Sorry, but WTF!?

I just read the OP Spotlight. Intro for Omega Supreme? A brief teaser into the former Primes? MONSTRUCTOR? The introduction to the GESTALTS in the IDW Universe? AND THIS WASN'T ENOUGH??

Goddamn, some people just can't be satisfied.

No offense Blitz, but I think the point was that people didn't feel like the comics were stand alone stories, meaning that you'd have to have read other comics to know what you're reading about in the OP or Galvy story. I mean I personally think both comics were awesome, full of cool references and angles that can be starting points for other stories. I wasn't lost at all but that's cuz I've read everything IDW has put out that's TF related.

More on topic, I can't wait for this Blaster Spotlight because he's one of my favorite characters and I've never read the Marvel comics, so I'd like to see what this amalgam of Blasters will be like

Oh and I'm agreed that some/most TFans will never be satisfied, but that's a TFan for you

No offense taken. I think IDW pretty much from the start let everyone know these spotlights would tie in with the Infiltration/Escalation/Devastation series somehow. Maybe people missed that part?

All the same, I've been overall impressed with the Spotlight series.

That was my thinking when IDW first started doing the spotlights with Nightbeat. I read that all the spotlights would have repercussions through the Infiltration "universe." Blaster is one of my favorites too, especially the animated version, I'm glad the recent output of TF books (Dreamwave & IDW) were/are incorporating the cartoon personas into their series.

On a side note, I want to know more about Galvatron and the first Ark.
