They look like comets and it will be a very good way to explain how they get to earth since there is no ark in the movie. And on that note the ark you draw to much attention to them but as comets or even metiors that could just crash land here and no one would think twice becauce you just know that there would been real pieces of space rocks around the site and we would just think that it broke apart after the impacked.

It's simple, these are ugly designs. They're like bad minicons blown up to a bigger scale. I don't buy the minicons that suck, and I won't buy these. I can't understand anyone seeing these and thinking they are well designed.
I hate the idea of them traveling without a spaceship, but that still doesn't change the fact that these are ugly. Even not liking the idea of them having to have a "protoform", I'd still have bought these if they turned out to be nice designs. They're not though.

Atleast (based on the pic of the toy) we know its not Proto-Prime comin out of the pool in the trailer - Head's very similar, but the bot in the pool is missing his "shoulder handles" (wtf?) and the chest windows. The feet are different too, but that could just be due to the constraints of making a toy.
In truth, I'm generally ok with these designs. Sure they aren't the G1 guys I grew up with, but as long as the character's are roughly the same, I can let that slide.
My only gripe looking at these protoform characters so far is this:
There's no Ark - good! spaceships are designed to provide a safe environment for us squishy organics in the vacuum of space - not required when your a 30ft robot....but WHY do these protoforms (Prime in particular) have cockpits / windows ?? Who's riding around in there??
I'm not expecting this movie to be groundbreaking - I'll still go see, because giant robots doing anything is always fun and as a freelance animator I worship the dark gods of ILM and am curious to see these characters in motion

GROW UP ALL YOU SAD PATHETIC LITTLE GEEWUNNER FANBOYS.
We are mostly adult (and with the language used in some of the posts I use the term extremely loosely) fans and enthusiasts of an ongoing childrens toy line.
Its not the same as what it was when G1 was out, get over it. I'm 28 and a parent. I've been collecting tf's since 1984, and can accept that styles change. Yes the old G1 moulds do have a certain retro charm, but lets face it, they were badly made, disproportunate in bot mode, inarticulate, and sometimes just plain hideous.
Give the movie the benefit of the doubt. Just look at it as being a movie in its own right, Not part of the G1 continuity. WHICH IS WHAT IT IS!!!
The full trailer looks great.
If a loyal G1 movie had been made, not enough people would have gone to see it to cover the production expense. Besides if you want a G1 Movie, just watch the original.
Lets just give Michael Bay the benefit of the doubt until we've actually seen the movie. Lots of people keep saying they won't go and see it. Quite frankly I simply don't belive that.
