If G1 was retooled with a current animation style and a fun and engaging storyline geared toward today's kids it would still sell like hotcakes. They aren't retooling G1 for the simple fact that it's already been done before. If Classics (or Universe 2.0 as it may end up being called) continues to look encouraging, we may see more ambitious figures. We know BB08 was hugely popular and impossible to find for a while. So the combination of the character's prominence in the movie and the design WORKED and hit a nerve.
While I am impressed with what they've achieved with this line (although I won't buy), they're pretty much turning an enigmatic hardend war machine into a my little pony character (movie bumblebee is considerably less cuddly than previous incarnations have been). This is the most cuddly he's ever been. Seems like it might be bad timing. It'll be interesting to see. |

I can honestly see some girls looking at his face and gushing, "OOOH, how CUTE!" But he looks weel articulated and looks like he would be real faithful to the cartoon. If I had any kind of a gripe, I think he's a little to big. He stands taller than the cClassics 'Bee and kinda "dwarfs" the Deluxe Prime figure. He would have done a little better as a Scout class.
2) Optimus "Paul Bunyan" Prime with his "Axe of Justice". I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say that this is OP's younger/chrysalis/pre-Matrix/pre-AllSpark from. This is a well done figure, but if there's a Voyager-class coming, only diehards will be looking to buy this one.

ANY-ways... This isn't a bad looking toy. It really isn't. But its definitely a complete alternate universe from what established fans know of the original Transformers.
And no matter what, thats just not gonna change for every single person.
Before I get back on track with this BB toy, I want to share the fact that we need to understand something very important about this huge but highly conflicted fanbase.
Some of you are fans of the shows and second to the toys themselves, I've noticed. So basically, you dont care what it is that comes out of Hasbro's butt regarding Transformers. Youre going to buy it and love it regardless.
(Then theres some of you in between the love hate, who get your feelings squashed once in a while..)
Theres the completionists who Im sorry, but to me, are classed as the mentally disabled. Purely because youre unable to STOP buying junk at any expense! lol An obsessive compulsive disorder, if you will. But thats just what I think. Who cares.
Then theres your purists, like me for instance, except, i've become a "little" more linient with some lines after finally owning the complete set of the first important G1 transformers catalog toys. Prior to that, everything else disgusted me.
But, afterwards, I felt like i could now journey through other TF realms safely. Unfortunately, I had extreme contempt for anything that didnt feel like the quality control the early "Diaclone" /TF toys did, so I skipped most of it.
The TF movie toys (the ones that actually showed up on screen atleast) where the only ones i broke for.
So there you have it. We're not all as one. Deal with it and stop being so snobby to another just because their opinions dont exactly fit with yours.
I do think that some opinions expressed here are either "too honest", or unecesarrily vulgar. But the point of expression ...well... is the freedom to post a true response and if you notice

2)While I respect that each person has his or her own opinion about what they like and dislike, I constantly find it infuriating when people say these figures would be more "correct" if they looked like G1. I love G1 just as much as the next fan, but just because it was first doesn't make it automatically "correct". There are multiple Transformers lines and universes, and each is correct unto itself. I realize I preaching to the choir here but I felt the need to vent that.
3)I am constantly amazed at the amount of complaining we do as a fandom. We asked for G1 inspired design, we got Classics and Masterpeice. We asked for real cars, we got Binaltech / Alternators. We ask for Unicron, we get Unicron and Primus. I think Hasbro and Takara have done a decent job trying to please the older fans and collectors while still maintaining the main customer base (children) that allows this franchise to continue.
Now having said that I'll be the first to admit that there are certain figures I absolutely hate, but the franchise isn't going to heck just because the current product line isn't something I'm interested in. There's always more stuff coming for us to spend our paychecks on. |

Second, no one said shit about G1. A bare comparison of dates, but not about the toy itself.
When G1 was released, it was an era of high quality products all around. Stuff wasnt cheaply made. And some of us miss that. Thats all.
And third, one can easily tell the quality of plastics used based off pics AND the fact that cheap plastics have been used for quite some time now.
Although, one must make note that this Bumblebee is labled as proto. Im not sure if that means prototype (i didnt read the description) or protoform.
So save your rant about posters man. Its annoying. If you dont like the nay say, too bad cuz guess what? Theres always going to be some from folks no matter what.
Its easy to say "UH DUH, THESE ARE FOR KIDS", but I dont see Mattel changing their Barbies quality to shit or baby them down for infants. And that goes for other toys as well. Not all companies make that choice, nor have to.
The original Transformers were Takara's original product as Diaclone. Those are finished. Period.
These new toys are all Hasbro ideas now. Based off a popular toy without much passion put into the story line.

G1 was mentioned a few times above. However, this topic has remained mostly civil for once. Speaking of G1 and quality, just because something is made from die cast metal doesn't make it better quality. I've seen more broken G1 and Diaclone figures than most anything post Beast Wars. Now, if you are referring to paint application then I would agree on the wide range of quality that seems hit or miss sometimes. The actual construction and plastic 'quality' as you put it, has so far been on par or superior to other toys in the same price range, save for a few oddball figures and design flaws (Deluxe Brawl's shoulders come to mind)
Now, I never said I didn't like the nay-saying. I even said I'd bash a figure myself if I didn't like it. My post is merely echoing that from one of the earlier posters in that it seems like some people complain just to complain and I see the same excuses used constantly.
Finally, you post about Barbies is slightly amusing since Mattel has and does "baby them down for infants". It's called multiple product lines for different age groups. Transformers has the same thing. If this line doesn't appeal to you, there's always Masterpiece, Movie, and soon Universe 2.0. |
