Transformers movie Producer Don Murphy posted on his official message board that Megatron's final head design in the Transformers movie will be different than the leaked design in late August of this year. "I CAN tell you that Megs’ head will not look like he did in the leaked pics," stated Mr. Murphy in his sunday posting. In a continuation of his rather sarcastic post, Mr. Murphy hints that the design was changed for the fans: "It was NOT because we were trying to make the fans happy. NO SIREE."

They don't look to have made that much of Megs in full scale, and most of that is obscured, so I think they've got some good wiggle room.
My biggest problem with Guyvatronicle is that the face has nothing you can hang a personality on. I could forgive the rest of the body if the face could emote in a recognizeable fashion, and convey the essence of the character.

As much as everyone else hates it, the assumption that Transformers has a fixed aesthetic or else it's not "Transformers" is frankly absurd and it threatens the line's ability to adapt for new audiences. If the line is going to survive, it needs to be able to adjust to changing audience's tastes. At any rate, the original 1984-86 line had a number of distinct aesthetic styles derived from the lines that it was borrowed from. Once they started making the toys super-posable, the aesthetics changed again. When Beast Wars started, the figures went from being blocky and angular to rounded and thin. Beast Machines had two fully different aesthics, and the TF movie designs (and story) are much closer to G1 than much of Beast Machines. At least the animation models of the movie robots are mostly based on the vehicle mode--the BM animation robot models had nothing to do with the anything on the altmodes.

It's not far enough along to preclude a significant change - the live filming may be essentially wrapped up, but this movie's got a crapton of post production that it's just entering. They can still play pretty freely with the aesthetics of things.

Ah yes, the Transfan ideal that if it doesn't please you, it won't please anyone because we assume we know best. Well, our place as being the main consumers of Transformers is about to be overthrown by this movie. This movie stands to create an entirely new and more adult sci-fi fanbase, one that has different aesthetic tastes and wants to see alien designs and ideas. This is where TF goes from being an 80's toy cartoon that only the select few still care about to a live-action sci-fi epic that far more people can get into.

Seriously though, the fans need to get out of the drivers seat and let these people do there job. Most here just have a problem with letting G1 die. I say they should have kept the face, and maybe even given all the characters different names. The transformers name brand was enough to lure plenty of old school fans and being that this is supposed to be a "new" movie, they should have started from scratch, IMO.
I'm sure half the people that go and see this movie won't even know the G1 characters and will just end up seeing it because it looks cool.

For those that complain everyone wants it G1 accurate:
Are you complaining because you think the G1 fans are trying to influence the project so that it's a live-action of a G1 episode, which you feel is overdone?
I don't think any of the old-school fans want that. We just don't want to see instantly recognizable figures get hacked up into something that is COMPLETELY different than what we know. Everyone keeps bringing up Beast Wars saying "Something new will work!" Remind me again, HOW successful was BW? I don't recall seeing alot of BW stuff out in the street.
Would you like to know my main concern with the movie? Too bad, I'm gonna tell you anyways :-) This movie is a great example of how Hollywood takes an idea and screws it up completely! Like some examples that haven't been used? Lost In Space, Godzilla (yes, I know, it's used as an example alot but I'm using it again) and Daredevil come to mind. 3 concepts that strayed from the known and flopped. FLOPPED.
You can only variate something so much before you ruin it's charisma and bury the line. I'm still keeping hope, but I'm still get visions of 1986 all over again.

I am all for a "fresh new" interpretation. The recent cartoons have all been ground-up reboots, and while being completely kiddie and stupid, have all been successful. However they all keep some very recognizeable elements from yes, G1; namely, Optimus and Megatron are always recognizeable, by some physical characteristics, and by their character. Also helps they've kept the voice actors, but still: Youan look at RiD or Cybertron Prime, and you know who you're looking at.
The movie Prime, despite his flames and cricket head, is still easily recognizeable as Optimus Prime. The movie Megatron, however, is easily recognizable as an extra from the last Guyver movie. I actually like the design on its own, I just don't see Megatron in it at all, and what's more, the face just does not look capable of much expression. I think they could make Megatron much more recognizeable (and more sellable) with a good face redesign. Not G1, but one that can express what a talented voice actor is capable of putting into it.
...And an arm cannon. Can't hurt. Arm cannon, Don!
Blitz, I think the show made BW a hit. I only bought one BW toy before I started watching the show; after that, I bought bunches. :D

Alright...it's time for a rant! Once again, I TOTALLY agree with BLITZWING! Once again, we hear the neverending rally of the G1-HATERS. Sorry kiddies, but G1 started it off...those are REAL Transformers! What I don't get is that 'the kiddies' are comparing Bay/Murphy hollywood crap to Beast Wars...sorry guys...even that's a far stretch! This is not the 'maturing' of a classic concept, this is the total annihilation of a concept! Although this is not the greatest of examples, what Armada/Energon/Cybertron attempted to do (with partial success) was to 'modernize' the look, not completely destroy it like the Hollywood boyz are doing. Transformers is not Gundam, not Macross, not Bionicles, not Guyver, not Spawn, not Voltron, not Zoids, not Terminator nor Predator nor Aliens, not Star Wars nor Star Trek nor Battle Star Gallactica, not Lost in Space (although that's the direction that Bay & Murphy are heading!)...and dare I say, not Beast Wars (as rocks are hurtled my way)...it's TRANSFORMERS first generation Robots in f'n Disguise...much more than just a 'cartoon' (for those that either had a problem with the cartoon or hated it)...yes, you see parts of their disguise in robot form; they're humanoid in form; most are vehicles, some are robotic animals (emphasis on 'robotic'); hell even a few can shrink down in size; throughout every series after G1 they carry over traits of the same characters (with the exeption of Beast Wars, which deviated from that, but at least carried over some remnants of Prime & Megs; and remember kiddies, was eventually forced to tie it back into G1 by the end of the series!)...there's cohesion...Bay's movie destroys that & Murphy is just an A$$. I know I'm wasting my breathe on the 'kiddies', but this one's for the 'choir'...you know, the REAL TRANSFORMER FANS! No whining here, just facts...I know, the truth f'n hurts!

Blitzwing, even though I don't have any hard figures, I do know that Beast Wars dragged Transformers from the brink of extinction to a renewed success they hadn't seen in years. For all the bickering and complaining that line created online, it was a glowing success in sales, and that's what counts. It seems, however, that very few people were willing to acknowledge how good a series it actually was until it was over.
