SDCC Exclusive Rodimus - The Last Alternator?

By News_Staff on Monday, July 02, 2007 @ 01:28:32 PM

Hasbro had the SDCC Exclusive Alternator Rodimus figure on display for the fans to check out at this year's BotCon. Hasbro toy deisgner Steve Bono was on hand to answer questions and mentioned that this might be the last Alternator they make. Take a look at the images of Steve and the Rodimus figure in-package in the gallery.

Why the last one? It was one of the most successful TF lines ever. That's a darn shame.

I think the KISS Players one looked better IMO, but hell I'd love to get this guy to add to my collection either way. Won't pay more than 40 for him though, so I doubt I'll be able to get one.

On a side note, what a ridiculous quote for such a young impetuous bot, "Wisdom will always defeat firepower" c'mon that's a Kup line at best, maybe Ratchet, but not Hot Rod/Rodimus

'Most successful'? I know my info's a little out of date, but last I'd heard Alternators was a marginal success at best, due to stop-and-go sales, high per-unit cost, and Hasbro's increasingly schizophrenic distribution. They did have a good run, and I'm damn sorry to see them go. Especially since Rumble and Ravage-kitty never even showed down here. It's like they started tailing off sometime early last year.

Also, definitely a wierd quote. A more Hot Rod-esque quote would be "A badass paint job and custom wheels will always defeat firepower, maaaan!"

The quote should have been "baw weep graw naw weep ninny baw!"
Either way, ending the alternator line is a HUGE mistake on Hasblow's part, i'm not touching the movie toys. Hopefully they will continue the line in Japan as binaltech or KISS, and i will just import them.

They need to continue the alternator line, and discontinue that guys chin! LOL!

Has anyones else noticed how Hot Rod (Rodimus) get to be the bringer of bad news for Transformers fans. First he kills Optimus Prime in the movie then he kills of Alternators too. Can Hot Rod do anything right?

This line would have done better if they would have stuck to beloved characters instead of random picks like Silverstreak and Ricochet, or my least favorite Skids. Poop! Why pick a character nobody has any person affection for. How about Dragstrip or Brawn?

Sadly, I can't say I'm the least bit surprised. Skids was the last new alternator most stores anywhere near me actually carried.

I am however disapointed. This probably means my recent return to transformers collecting will be coming to a close. I'll have to wait and see if they do any more new MP figures (skywarp doesn't count- I already paid for starscream).

I'd been secretly hoping that (even though the movie toys are more realistic looking than most TF lines) they might try a spin at some alt/mp versions of some of the movie characters.

Oh well, it looks suspiciously like deluxe bumblebee 08 and ultimate bumblebee may be the last two tfomers I buy.

Come on hasbro, prove me wrong.

The japanese alt's and Mp's really were something special.

totally agreed! this guy seems to be what we call here in Colombia "un man salao" he just oozes bad luck and everybody around him gets hit by it, it doesn't matter if you are the legendary autobot leader or just a plain average Joe. I bet accidents in cybertron are called "hot rods"

I Personally like very much models like Streak, much more realistic and elegant than Smokescreen, and Skids, Meister, Laserware, or Sunstreaker (that i like ever more than Lambor) Ther are really many few Binaltech models that I don´t like. Without that line or Masterpiece, My collection of TF would stop here. I like some of the Classic new line models, but that´s all

Last one already? Freaking Hasbro distribution never gets things right. I haven't been able to obtain the last four/five/six alternators.

Yep, last one. Hasbro admitted to some mistakes being made in the molds and repaints they picked (c'mon, Decepticharge?). They mentioned in the Futures panel that they had to cut some lines to make room for others. Alts and 6" Titaniums were the sacrificial lamb. Believe me... it's worth it.
