Yeah, his face has got an alternate mode with mouth when he is Speaking. This one of the pic is his "battle mode"

I don't understand what the v-shaped peice of metal for that's directly in front of the eyes but now I can see why when I looked at the pics of this optimus prime before, he either looked completely stoned or just groggy. It's cool that he's got "pupils" now and so his eyes have more detail than his other incarnations, but it doesn't seem as intimidating as those from the other incarnations of optimus prime.

I love it. I mean, the only thing I'd change is his mouth plate. the downward slope makes it more "Ginrai-esque." I know, Ginrai is a legitimate source for Prime influence, I just like the "Convoy" look better.
Otherwise, I love it. and you know, there's something cool about him sort of looking like he's wearing glasses. He looks like an old dignified leader.

I'm not so sure about that NachoMon. Oh, I know his faceplate retracts, but I don't think he has a mouth proper. From what I understand, non of the transformers will have a mouth proper in the movie. it's one of those weird human things that doesn't make sense for robots, particularly alien robots.
Which does make sense, if you think about it...

I think this is an old render, it looks a lot like one of the first pics of Primes head where he has a "censor" bar through the eyes. I doubt this is what he'll look like in the end

From what I can tell, it looks like those V-shaped pieces in front of each eye are connected to the "nose" piece to basically form a guard for the nose and eyes like the helmets of the ancient Greeks had. It looks like that entire piece retracts upward into the crown of the helmet while the lower section splits in half and retracts into the cheek guards to either side revealing whatever Prime has for a mouth.

I really hope, that this is in mid-Transforming of the Head to Combat mode, as the frame of his Glasses, which seems to magnify a bit, seems to create a dead angle for his forward-view, which would be extremely unlogical.
If it is mid-Animation, the Glasses should completely fill out the Openings of his eyes, which would create a G1-Style Eye-Look, which would look really cool when viewing the Okulars under the Glasses.

I think that there is a faint glow around the eyes to mimic the "g1 eyes" look from the cartoon. Obviously it isnt there now, but I think I remember reading that it will be present in the movie...perhaps when the eyes will glow when they feel emotion?

If you look at the pictures from the cover of Empire magazine that featured Prime, his eyes were glowing blue like the classic designs. I think what we're seeing here is a non-CG enhanced version. The 'eyes' here probably will be behind a translucent blue 'eye' that will give it a more classic look, with these being the 'eye' projectors. Atleast that's what I'm hoping for, as these eyes look plain weird.

thats what I was thinking as well. this head looks like the earlier renders we saw pre-EMPIRE mag cover.

the eyes need to be higher up, apart from that i think he looks pretty sleek, and the alien robot reason is lame, yeah aliens might not have humanoid faces or mouths

Those V shaped things are wipers for when it's raining or optimus sheds a tear for the wanton destruction that the decepticons have brought to the planet Earth! See M. Bay and his design team are visionaries(?). They weren't going to settle for a live action film about a toy line that looked like a toy line movie. They were all about what would "real" tranformers look like. What would they feel. F*ck the fan base! They want to show what makes Optimus tick, what inside the legend! Underneath the crappy design is a robot, and under the robot is his, ummm, necleus.

Bifocals... Well he is quite old! What are you expecting??? He is an alien from another planet created before we were even twinkles in our God's eye! I believe these ROBOTS should not have nor need Human features. Any such resemblence would be merely coincidental. I mean why would a ROBOT need a nose? lip? eyeballs?
