U.S. To Get ''Transformers'' DVD, HD-DVD October 16th

By bwbm on Wednesday, September 05, 2007

Paramount Home Entertainment announced today that "Transformers" will see a U.S. shore release for both standard-definition DVD and HD-DVD on October 16, 2007.

It was announced last month that "Transformers" would exclusively be released on HD-DVD, leaving Blu-Ray users without their own version.

The special edition standard definition and HD-DVD version will see a two-disc set populated by more options than you can shake a stick at.

Standard-def will have commentary by Director Michael Bay and two multi-part in-depth documentaries exploring the human elements of the film as well as the phenomenal robot stars.

The HD-DVD will have a TRANSFORMERS H.U.D. (Heads Up Display) that lets viewers access running text commentary while watching the film and even view relevant behind-the-scenes footage in a picture-in-picture window. Additionally, viewers can explore the main robots’ individual details in high definition with the TRANSFORMERS Tech Inspector.

HD-DVD only = BULLS**T! :D

That totally sucks... the animated prequal bits better be on the standard DVD...

As much as this tempts me to run out and buy an HD-DVD player, I'm still not convinced it will be the winner of the DVD war. I'll stick to the Standard DVD for now.

Ill just buy the standard DVD. I mean, its not going to be long until some kindly soul uploads the "extras" to youtube or another equivalent site anyway. Even if Paramount makes a load of "remove these posts" requests, by the end of the year or next they will resurface.

God bless the ineternet, eh readers?

While the HD edition getting some features that standard didn't was inevitable, when you look at the features break downs Standard def is NOT getting cheated. a commentary and many documentaries detailing all levels of the making of the film. In fact, overall the standard def release looks like it's getting more content!

Oh, and the animated prequal comic stuff is NOT on either of these versions. It will be it's own separate disc that will be packaged onto the single disc edition of the film and sold exclusively at Wal-Mart.

I find it strange they are releasing this just a couple weeks after the IMAX premiere. You'd think they would wait another month so it wouldn't interfere with ticket sales.

IMAX is such a totally different experience than a regular movie showing I really doubt if you're a person waiting for the IMAX version you're going to settle for the standard dvd.

It might actually help sales since IMAX viewers might get the movie to see it in general then go to the Imax for the more detailed version.

Stranger things have happened.
