According to inside studio sources, IESB has reported that Frank Welker and Hugo Weaving (The Matrix) are leading contenders for the voice of Megatron for this summer's blockbuster Transformers movie. While IESB reporter Robert Sanchez 's own sources claim that Frank Welker is "days away" from signing the piece of paper that guarantees him the job of Megatron, another "reliable source" has told Mr. Sanchez that Hugo Weaving has become a potential voice actor for the role as of two weeks ago. Who will it be? Only time will tell.

I'm torn. Having Welker do the voice for Megatron again would be great, especially considering that Cullen is reprising his role as Prime. However, this Megatron has no resemblence whatsoever to Welker's character. What to think...

To whoever asked, i believe Megs will get an earth form, hes supposed to be a jet of somekind. Hopefully this will be where he gets the old bucket-head look (i remember an article saying theyd changed the head design) and a f**ckoff great arm canon.
Im not fussed which guy gets the voice, ill be happy if welker gets it for nostaligias sake (as long as he gets some practice and doesnt end up sounding like fred from scooby-doo) but weavings voice has a cold intelligence to it that would serve megatron well.

Starblazer...your comment is just the kind of garbabe that many of us are getting tired of. You're flaming just to flame. Cullen is responding to a huge fanbase that WANTED him to voice Prime again. The new Prime at least resembles what we've come to know Prime as, so the voice is fitting. But I do agree with Blitzwing that it doesn't really matter for Megatron, as the movie character has zero resemblence to any Megatron we've seen before. After seeing his designs, I honestly don't think Welker's voice would even suit him.

You need to reviews these fellows credits. You are going to find some really horrid titles there. One long gone and well to be forgotten.
I am with the chap who said "bfb" The voices are incidental. It is good writing that make a good film.

Well, there you go. Sign on frank and you have nearly the whole original caste. At least this is something they got right. I am glad at least that the two original actors that breathed life into this franchise are going to make money on it.

I want Welker because it will make me want to see this movie more then I do, and right now it's just so I can say "I saw it". With Cullen doing prime, it helps a little, but I will admit that Welker is who I care about, I never really cared for heroes.
If I were to guess I'd think Cullen will get the part, only because anyone who's going just to see a movie about large robots fighting will go anyway. Fans in my opinion will be more likely to go (if not maybe be more keen on liking it) if Megs original voice is tagged to him. Gives you something to look forward to. If the movie sucks it wont be due to Cullen, it'll just be bad anyway.
I have a question for anyone keeping better track of this stuff. Does Megs get an Earth mode before the end of this movie? I can't recall.

most people in the world will hear a totally different guy synchronizing megatron in their own language, anyway.
sad thing - the old cartoon series never came in german language, that's why i only know it from british tv channels in *english*.
even the '86 movie never came to europe (except for GB maybe, i guess).
so - i only know cullen and welker as voices and this time i will hear prime with a totally different voice.
btw - all non-english-speaking nations in the world will do so. for us, even this last link to the "transformers feeling" won't be in the movie.
