Michael Bay Says He'll Get Frank Welker for Soundwave

By Primus on Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Okay fans, you ready for this? Michael Bay posted word on his official message board that will make a lot of people haooe. The post is about none other than Frank Welker doing the voice of Soundwave in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen! "I think I’m going to pursue Frank on Soundwave. Michael" posted Mr Bay.

For those who don't know, Frank Welker played many of the voices in the 1980s Transformers Generation 1 cartoons that are the foundation for Transformers as we know and love them today. Welker is best known for his distinctive characterization of the Decepticon leader Megatron. However he also did voices for Frenzy, Ravage, Galvatron, Mirage, Trailbreaker, Ratbat AND Soundwave!

This news is rather heartwarming. After the huge outcry by the fans to choose Welker for the voice of Megatron in tandem with the selection of Peter Cullen reprising the voice of Optimus Prime. It good to know our cries were not made in vain. Check out Frank Welker as Soundwave together again in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in theaters June 24, 2009.

Stay tuned to Tformers.com for more details as they are made available. Your best resource for all the Transformers news and community every day.

Yeah, I do that same sort of thing, and it really can make you lose your voice. Especially when you have to yell in that same voice (Or yell altogether).

I have to disagree, it has to be the dr claw voice otherwise it doesn't sound quite right. Also it is a completely different thing to be able to do the voice and to sustain it without damaging your vocal chords.

Megatron and Hellscream both had a very faint "scraping" sound to their voices. But you could only hear it on Megs when he wasn't yelling. Barricade's stood out more because that sound was monotone and lower pitched. I still stand by my belief that his voice was the best bot voic... read more

This is such a great move from Michael Bay... for once! Having Frank Welker to voice Soundwave will be totally awesome! Just as impressive as having Peter Cullen to do Prime's!!!

:pfx I thought it was very subtle. Everyone seems so insistant that their voices were modified. If they were, I didn't hear much of it except with Barricade, though why just with him I don't know. The only other character that seemed a little computer-ish was Starscream for his one line... read more
