MTV Talks Transformers 3 with Lorenzo di Bonaventura

MTV caught up with Transformers movie producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura about what's going on with the third installment of the series. The mini-interview touches on a number of hot issues surrounding the movie including plans for 3-D, what's going with going back to the core mythology and some of the hub bub around Michael Bay's relationship with Megan Fox. To which Bonaventura states:
He's [Bay] the captain of the ship. But I think that's much ado about nothing. I even read that we were thinking about not casting her. Come on! It's so silly. As though we would want to mess with such a successful combination.
When asked about the reports that part three will take us back to the beginning of the "core mythology" as suggested by a number press comments from Hasbro and others. Bonaventura responds defensively as if the question was scrutinizing what they did in the first two movies:
I didn't think we veered away from the mythology in the second one... We were sticking fairly close to the mythology. We are going to continue to explore the past in the third one and that will continue to inform the present... By and large, the fans have accepted and embraced what we've been doing.
About the grand question to Transformers 3-D or not to 3-D? Lorenzo says they are literally deciding that right now. Stating there is no answer, he seems to be warming us up for some post-production work citing James Cameron who did some of the 3-D work in post. If they do 3-D, some filming may be done on set and some in post-production for a combination of the two:
So I think the answer is that, as with most movies, you're going to do some kind of combination if you end up doing it. I'm sure 3-D cameras are going to get lighter and more manageable and all the things that get in the way right now.
