Well that... That's kind of disturbing actually... It's not unheard of especially in the comics, to see Optimus without his mask and it usually shows up as horrifyingly skeletal like you just... ripped off his face or something. My guess is that's meant to be a skeletal face like in the comics or he's pinching a massive robo-loaf. I pray it to be the former.

How does optional "battle damage" ruin the figure?? If anything, this increases the nostalgic value with the thought and effort put into the figure. I just hope they actually have some sort of paint application for the face on the final production model.

Hmmm.... This has got to be the most controversial detail I've seen in a transformers. Optimus Prime's face without the mouthplate looks disturbing. He looks as sleek as a ghost (borrowed from Alex Convoy's TF Fanfiction). Optimus is one ugly Cybertronian. But with the mouthplate, he looks like one bad mathar*****!
While many may argue that this ruins the whole toy, I must say: At least you can conceal his disturbing mouth.
Overall, I really don't like it cause I always pictured Prime as a handsome male transformer who symbolized masculinity in its highest form. Now he looks as ghastly as a ghost. UGH!

It'll probably look a little better with the head actually attached to his neck - maybe he's gnashin' his teeth 'cause he's about to bury that badass axe right in Megatron's face. Besides, I don't think it looks any more ridiculous than Optimal Optimus/Primal Prime, who has his mouth sticking out in the middle of his mask.
But what the heck's with that flowery background?

I think it's good that Optimus Prime is "ugly." If we make toys that distinguish "good guys" from the "bad guys" on the basis of attractiveness, then we are no better than the Nazis, or Disney, for that matter. I don't think Takara is out to promote the "Aryan race" Good guys can be ugly, and bad guys can be drop dead gorgeous.

This is Simon Furman and Andrew Wildman's fault back in the Marvel published Transformebr comic books in the 80's.
I get to see Fortress Maximus 'glasses' ripped out by Galvatron.
Transformers is not like the way I expected in the US. I was hoping they;re going to collaborate with the Japanese people.

I think it's based on Prime's face from the end of Marvel's comic run. After he'd been blown up when he destroyed Unicron, you saw underneath his face plate. His mouth was just a loudspeaker, but with it being white and having a grid on it, it looked like clenched teeth. This feature on the figure could be either. It could be done better, but I'm not complaining. If you don't like it, just leavew the mask on.

Yes, I disagree 100% that this face looks ugly... actually looks fairly nice, although having his mouth closed would look better (Hasbro Jazz, anyone?)... The idea of Prime having a face at all is pretty cool, and as with all such things (I can't believe I just retyped that phrase), we'll have to see the final release to really judge. I think any "flaws" of Masterpiece Prime (permanent grimace, battle damage paint) will be more than made up for by the positives (large, detailed, fully articulated version of the character, perhaps even putting Armada Unicron to shame as a Transformers toy).

I don't understand what is wrong with this. You won't see it unless you remove it. It's like a battery compartment: you see the ugly components of a battery compartment only when the lid is off, but when it's on, it's just more detail on the toy. So they added a detail from the comic book (as far as I can tell). What's wrong with that? Are you gonna take the faceplate off to moan and groan about how awful it looks? Or are you gonna leave it on to admire this toy? Tell me this: Has any of you ever opened up your Transformers and take a look inside? It's not pretty in there. They could have left it blank under his face, but they didn't; they provided more detail. Detail that is there to make this -the most detailed- Transformer ever. They included his mouth speaker (which I believe it's a speaker, but I can't really tell now). Something that could've been easily left out, and nobody would have complained. Now they add this detail, and you all complain. This detail you won't see unless you take the faceplate off or do something with the face plate. Ever looked inside some of your Transformers? Ugly ratcheting joints, hollow parts, wires in quite a few places on the electronic ones... but those aren't details, those are necessities. That you don't see. This is a detail, that you don't see (again, unless you do something with the plate). I see no reason to complain here.

i think that this prime is amazing looking. The removable face-plate is a good touch. Jesus i never knew trans-fans (if you call yourselfs that)could be such whiney little punks. Takara and Hasboro didnt have to release this figure but they did it for us. So stop your whining and be thankful.

You know what they might do is They might include a Comic book or Dvd Explaining Why His Face is like that. Maybe When Megatron/galvatron killed orion Pax and Alpha Trion Rebuilt him. He wanted to have Optimus To Show Megatron/galvatron who he really was in the final show down. Or thats a Symbol of what Optimus is fighting for.

whatever Takara does when it pertains to Transformers is always great compared to HASBLOW!! Takara "Always" kicks ass!! They make the greatest Transfomers even when it comes to remaking the sh-tbox Hasblow crap! They still do a better job. I trust their judgement any day over the "TRC" Transformers Repaint/Recycle Center known as HASBLOW!! Takara all the way. Keep up the great Tformers lines Takara.
Oh, Keep the gays off the message boards they already have too many rights. Please!! The last thing we need is some homo saying we need a fag Prime. Now despite the skeletal face which never appeared in the cartoon (thank god!) I intend on leaving the face plate on for good. As fans we want toys done to the likeness of their cartoon counterparts and Takara has finally answered our pleas. All we can do now is HOPE they do a MEGATRON next, and continue with this as long as they've cancelled the SCF Gen 1 line.
Do to the US's stupid toy gun ban (another form of PC BS) We'll have to order Megatron online from stores like bbts. This is why the Hasblo reissues have been tampered with and are now starting to lose steam due to the ready availability of the takara reissues. Which are 100 fold better and accurate even if they add extra features!

I happen to like it. In Beast Wars, Optikus Primal had a mouth and we dodnt like it one bit, so they showed a few eps with Primal and his battle face mouth plate wich slid over his mouth.

Hey guys... what is there to complain about? U don't like it.. then don't remove the faceplate!! I have always wondered how come Optimus Prime's face looks so modern as opposed to the older leaders of the Autobots. This face explains it. He doesn't look different, Just concealed!!! G1 episodes have shown former Autobots leaders before eg. "Return of Optimus Prime" and a few other episodes as well. They look very rudimentary and ancient. Keep in mind Prime was made in the Golden age of Cybertron. Think of it this way...If he is good looking, he wouldn't need a face plate LOL. I would think poor old Wheeljack suffers the same fate :)

All I have to say "Just when Hasbro let us down, they totally redeem them selves!" Great feature to have on this Masterpiece! There has to be something under the mask why not this! Remember when Darth Vader revealed himself to his son Luke Skywalker and it was a chubby old man. Now how disappointing is that? There are worst things in the world than what they have done here! You guys are up in arms over a face mask that can be removed but in vehicle mode he's missing a key ingrediant. Focus fans! I must agree that the debate over the face is of little meaning compared to the issue of no trailer to go with prime. Lets face it "face or no face" who really cares, the big issue is why do we have only half a prime to arrive in the future when the fans are really wanting a whole prime, not just the body but the big rig that makes prime what he is!!!
Another thing to consider is that all of the people who are waiting for the hasbro version and not preordering the takara brand is that you will be disapointed when you find that hasbro will release a "small smoke stack, no metal parts, less desireable version" and by you will have to buy the takara version from ebay at a much more expensive price. Not that I wont buy both versions but if I had to say it in a nut shell it would be "VIVA LA TAKARA"!!!!

You make a pretty good point. I heard a rumor that the trailer will follow soon, as the price point would be too expensive if added now. The best places to go to order this item are Big Bad toy store, action figure express, digital toys, blue box toys, etc. all of them a pretty much the same price range give or take a few dollars. I suggest the Takara version, as Hasblo will most definetly be "tampering" with the american release.
It's your decision as a buyer, but I'd want something that originates from where it was origionally preoduced. Overseas.

See this is where I'm confused. I could have sworn that Hasblow said that it will be the same as the Takara release with extended smoke stacks and all. Besides with the pricing, there's no way this toy with a price tag should be played with with your average Armada fan (5 year olds)

I hate them: Hasblo with the passion. I think that by far are the worst company in the world. They have the best licenses but have monkeys running the show. As far as the trailer Hasblo was quoted stating to toyfare that a trailer is a possilility in the near future. Now I know most if not all of us cannot read japanese so I took it as such that Takara will do the same but 100 fold better. I agree with you that they suck and some numbnuts said on the post that repaints are good, gaining more money for a company To produce toys like this. BS Make new toys> companies like this are too stupid to do something this elaborate, thus, Japan is the country coming up with the new innovative ideas in lines like these Where the us just repackages everything and reduces the price in production by getting rid of diecast etc. Take a look at the reissues in the US you'll see what I mean. Anything like the transfomers I buy I get them from overseas, As I'd rather spend the money on something I know is worth the price and the wait. Why do you think the 20 masterpiece prime in jap is $95. and Hasblo said that their US release will clock in about $75?
Takara does have repaints,BUT are very creative repaints.

Dont put faith in the idea that Prime wont be altered in some way by hasbro; Im not here for the debate on what hasbro's overall intentions are regarding fellow collectors and will not sympathsize with thier poor products like the armada line but I will state fact.
1. US toy standards will not allow toys to be produced that will fail break tests (when a toy is droped it may not produced X amount of sharp peices)
2. Toys produced in the US must have stickers or print stating "Small parts not suitable fot young children" if they do so have such.(IE crappy warning labels on most recent hasbro reissues right on the front of the box that dont match the art work)
3. Toys that shoot projectiles must not exceed X amount of feet when shot. (IE weak springs)
4. No toy Gun may look realistic or must have an orange safety tip. (IE no US megatron reissue)
Theese toy laws keep Hasbro from producing reissue Megatron and Fort max and will also plague future reissues and most likely play a part in keeping the new Alternators line and Masterpeice Prime from being as desireable astheir Takara counterpart.
I also agree that production issues and cost are a considerable factor for replacing diecast with plastic and shortening smokestacks.
The bottom line is Takara is a much better product but I will say in Hasbros defense my US reissues are great and the molds are tight unlike my Takara Starscream wich is somewhat flimsy compared to the hasbro version wich has tight joints but no cool missles like the jap version.
None the less dont beleive that hasbro's version will be as nice. VIVA LA TAKARA!!!!

Like ANY self repsecting TF fan and hasblo hatter i think masterpeace prime is the BEAST TF EVER. my contact at HASBLOW has told me something very INTERESTING. Aparrently the Hasblow version is so bad it will give you AIDS.
two tf testers already got aids from touching the toy and DIED.
He told me to only get theTakara version because IT ROCKS.

Ok, will someone give me hope? Is there any possibility of hasblow puting the age warning lable that states this toy is for children 10 and up? or something like that? I mean God, is Hasblow that clueless? It would be nice if we had some kind of demographic to show the amount of reissues purchased from japan compared to the reissues sold in the US and cross reference by the age ranges of those that actually did the purchasing. What Hasblow needs to realized is that G1 reissues are being bought by 20+ year olds trying to rekindle an old love affair they had at 8. I don't see anyone buying Powermaster Prime with God bomber armor so that their 5 year old can play with it. Hell the 5 year old might resent their parent for getting them a toy that doesn't appear anywhere in the armada cartoon. (If anyone reading this knows different please tell me)

Ok, that is total 100% bull****. A true "self-respecting" Tf fan wouldn't tell brazen lies to try to damage Hasbro's reputation. And the AIDS thing, don't even get my started on that.

In your opinion. Me, if I had to get one or the other, I'd definitely go Hasbro. Why? Simple. I don't live in Japan. I live in the U.S. I'd have a much easier time obtaining 20th Prime than MP Convoy.

Let's see. Hasbro started putting meaningful articulation in the Tfs with G2 (Laser Rods, Dreadwing & Smokescreen, the Cyberjets), and they helped to establish Transformers as an international franchise. Without Hasbro, I doubt any of us would be here talking about Tfs.

I am just glad that even thou he has a seious "POTO" thing going on with his real face he handle it like "Man in the Iron Mask" but I completly agree with you that this is controvercial and he would look better if the rest of his form were connected and we didn't have a "hamlet" moment goin on in front of the flowery background.
