Transformers 4: Age of Extinction - Brand Fatigue: Hasbro to Reboot Transformers 4 Product Lines

Investor site The Motley Fool has posted an interesting analysis of Hasbro's Transformers movie product lines and what they expect will happen with toy sales from the new "Transformers 4: Age of Extinction" movie that will be out in July 2014. The good news is they predict Hasbro will continue to sell more Transformers toys with the fourth installment even though the threat of "Brand Fatigue" looms on the horizon. Read on to see the chart and main talking points from the article.

The Transformers movies were released in 2007, 2009, and 2011. As you can see in the chart below, Hasbro experienced vast improvements in revenue following each of those releases.

With Transformers 4, Hasbro intends to combat this potential [Brand Fatigue] problem by bringing on a whole new human cast and moving the premise in a different direction. According to IMDb, the movie will actually center on a discovery made by a mechanic and his daughter that pits them against Autobots, Decepticons, and the government. If this storyline holds true, humans versus Transformers would represent a break with the past.

For us, the fans, things are not at rosey as the movies have often spelled a less than exciting opportunity for good quality collectibles. Few collectors can deny that "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" was a low point in Transformers products when even the retailers refused to continue carrying a lot of it.
