Previews magazine is listing the Transformers DVD box set for release this April. The five disc box set will include all episodes from the 1st season of the Generation 1 series. The DVDs will be available for sale as four individual volumes as well.
After a couple of delays it looks like Rhino is ready to go in April. If you've seen any of the other Transformers cartoons released on DVD from Rhino. You know this is going to be a must have for any fan of the original television series.
Completely restored from the 35mm prints, the set encompasses all 16 episodes aired between 1984 and 1985 and comes on five separate DVDs. The box set is reported to have a disc of extras including outtakes and other bonus features. The Web site
DVD Toons reported earlier that the Rhino Boxed set will include some very impressive additions including: a new digital transfer from original 35mm film, transformers restoration,
outtakes, alternate sequences, never-before seen documentary: A Taste of Botcon 2001,
anomalies, bumpers, an original Transformers script and two limited-edition Transformers cels.
The box will retail for $49.95 according to Previews. DVD Toons is quoting the price at $59.95 on their site. The latter seems more plausible for what you get. Either way, it's really a bargain for such a large set that includes so many extras.
If you don't want to shell out for the whole set at once you can pick them up one at a time. There will be four individual DVD volumes available as well. These will retail at $19.95 per volume.
Previews has the items listed for an April release. The DVD Toons site has identified April 23rd as the release day. Check your local video stores for pre-order opportunities. Judging from how fast the Beast Wars reissues disappeared from stores. These are sure to sell out even faster.
