First Clear Look At Unite Warriors Blast Off - Updated With Design Analysis!

We reported last night on the leak of a retailer order form showing in extreme low-res the first sign of the new mold Blast Off for Unite Warriors. Tonight, nakigao_san on Twitter has posted a magazine scan - most likely from the new Figure King issue - giving us a much better, more detailed look at Blast Off. The figure is designed with a new transformation that plays with the tropes of Combiner Wars design and gives a design influenced by the cartoon model. We have the image mirrored, so click through and take a look and read our breakdown of how the transformation works!

At first glance, Blast Off seems to use a pretty different method of transformation compared to 90-ish percent of Combiner Wars. But that's kind of an illusion. Blast Off has all the same basic movements present, the trick lies in that the robot is technically "backwards". In all CW-design limbs except Brawl (and Alpha Bravo who does it with the tail instead), the front chunk of vehicle pulls up and sits on the back. Blast Off's forward section still pulls up the same way. But an added hinge at the nose lets it fold in under the cockpit section and have a more or less level edge with the top of the torso, and that becomes the front of the robot instead of the backpack like would typically be the case.

The back view of the robot in the scan makes this a little clearer since you can see the combiner plug and shapes that conform to what we'd probably expect the robot chest to actually be - albeit with a tail fin sticking out of it. Depending how much the robot arms need to specifically be on the sides they are, it may even be possible to swap the arms from left to right and make a functional alternate robot mode with Blast Off. Could that perhaps be a clue to what TakaraTomy will do a little farther down the line when they get to Computron? Also of interesting note is the presence of a new style of hand-foot-gun, or at least a new cover piece. The extra palmside peg hole suggests this might be the same "frame" as Brawl and the Rook mold family has. The presence of this unique piece certainly gives rise to interesting questions, given Groove reused the helicopter mold dual gatling piece for its Combiner extremity.
