Greg Mooradian to Head Allspark Pictures - Paramount and Hasbro to Take On Marvel Studios
BaCon - Tuesday, October 10, 2017

Just when many wondered if the Comicbook Movie party was running out. Paramount and Hasbro are doubling down on their plans for Allspark Pictures. According to Variety Online, starting in 2018 the studio will be headed by Greg Mooradian, currently at Fox 2000, who produced films for Paramount prior to 2013 including films such as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, “G.I. Joe” and “Transformers.”

The much bigger news is Paramount wants to take a bigger role in the Hasbro property productions. Moving from their current role in distribution to helping finance and develop a full-fledged studio with productions to rival Disney's Marvel Studios.

Hasbro has hired seasoned veteran Greg Mooradian to oversee the company’s film division, Allspark Pictures, as it attempts to create a full-fledged movie studio. As president of Allspark, he will oversee film and television production starting in January. Sources say the company has been making an effort to raise money to start its own studio for some time, and is trying to attract funding in the nine-figure range in order to properly develop its own slate of films. The hope is to transform itself into an industry player to rival Marvel Studios.

[...]

The company currently has a deal with Paramount. It wants to expand that relationship so that Paramount isn’t just distributing its movies, but is also partnering on financing films and developing projects.

[...]

There’s a longstanding relationship between the companies. Paramount has successfully made films based on Hasbro characters like Transformers and G.I. Joe. Those franchises will not be a part of the new pact. Paramount develops any movies featuring these characters, with Hasbro serving as a producer.

WHAT, No Transformers or G.I. Joe? What about the Cinematic Universe? Seems a bit odd considering those are Hasbro's only Superhero franchises. Are they really expecting My Little Pony to stand up to the Hulk? It will remain to be seen what is going to unfold. With Disney holding all the cards. It may very well be a matter of Paramount and Hasbro having no one else to work with, but each other.

Related by frequent proxy-source for upcoming toys Mr Chaos, we have word of a pair of store inventory listings for a new pair of Studio Series Voyagers. Another Optimus Prime - seemingly distinct from the Voyager currently available in Wave 1 - is on the way somewhere in the near future. And likely to be joining it is a brand new entry in the series, a Voyager class Bonecrusher. Rumors had circulated about the existence of Bonecrusher recently, and this seems to stand in support of their accuracy. No images as yet, but you can keep reading to see the transcribed inventory listings.
Thanks to Planet Iacon's group page. We have new looks at the TakaraTomy Studio series Optimus Prime and Starscream in the packages. Get a look at the Japanese editions of these figures now for the full preview of the Japanese editions, below.
The sale date for Studio Series toys looks to have fallen earlier than we thought - possibly 4/2 rather than 4/20 - and retailers are properly stocking the new assortments now. Latest on that score is Walmart, where I can personally report a sighting in the middle Tennessee area, west of Nashville. On hand were the full assortment of both wave 1 Deluxes and Voyagers. Leaders had not been stocked yet. Take note, though the photos below show the toys stocked in existing spaces, a quick price scan reveals Walmart is following along with the suggested retail prices, so about $20 for Deluxes and $30 for Voyagers - no undercutting like we saw with The Last Knight. Happy hunting, movie collectors!
