New 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime DVD Edition Info

By Primus on Thursday, August 17, 2006

OPTIMUS PRIME and his AUTOBOTS® captured the hearts and minds of a generation. He marched at the head of an army of giants – mechanical protectors from beyond the stars whose only goal was the preservation of life and freedom for all creatures against the evil forces of the DECEPTICONS®. Twenty years ago, that battle against evil reached its greatest pitch, and OPTIMUS PRIME exemplified heroism and sacrifice in the animated adventure TRANSFORMERS: The Movie.

Here is OPTIMUS PRIME as millions remember him: a massive, steel warrior whose commanding visage and booming voice – heard again here through an electronic AUTOBOT® display stand - encompass what it means to be a true leader, and a true hero.

Highly articulated and poseable figure changes from robot to truck and back! Electronic sounds and phrases from the classic animated adventure can be heard at the touch of a button. Other awesome features include spring-loaded suspension, ion blaster, light-up Matrix chamber, flip-out datacomm interface and an AUTOBOT display stand.

I hate his new blue rifle... it is so not the cartoon Prime...
Seems only Hasbro thinks about is ca$h... They don´t care what we think as long as it sells...

Does Action-HQ really think that they will sell this for $180 US. I know they usually gets things before most online sellers being in HK and all, but please!

$180?
from what little research i've done, that seems to be the price of the Prime/Trailer Release.
not just the Prime.

I dunno... box doesn't look big enough for Prime plus a trailer. Here's my strategy:

1) Wait for this to be on clearance (and it will be)

2) Swap rifles with MP-01

3) Sell MP-01 on eBay with the blue rifle

2. What in the name of god have they done with his antennae?

I'm so glad I bought the Japanese mp-01

I've got the original MP1, and this is the BEST Optimus Prime I have ever seen! TONS of ball and ratchet joints for incredible poses. But be warned this fig is HEAVY! So balancing is an issue...

Comes with the Matrix of Leadership, too!

This figure is (without a doubt) a marvel of modern toy design.

This repaint is PERFECT for a newbie looking for a taste of Transformer goodness!

If they release MP3 Starscream soon afterwards, now that would be a good follow up to this line...

80 bucks for this? It doesn't even bring the trailer. The stacks are still small. Prime's weapon is blue instead of black. The paint ,and his one liners is an improvement. I thought they would sell it cheaper this time. I was considering 50 instead of 80. If they drop the price later. I might consider. Since I don't have one.

'Seems only Hasbro thinks about is ca$h... They don´t care what we think as long as it sells...'

Dude, this is the main purpose of a business, especially when it reaches such a huge level. Everyone praises Takara for being more 'fan involved', but you dont seem to realise that Takara has to be more 'fan involved' in Japan, because it's an entirely different market. If Takara wasn't trying to squeeze money from people, they wouldn't have gone and made BT Asterick/Kiss Players either.

Another defect I've notice both of his antennaes connected to his head are chewed off by Hasbro too. Judging by the pics.

His antennae aren't missing or cut off, you all just need to look closer at the pics. They're there, they're just turned backwards. WHY they're backwards is beyond me, though...

I'll be picking him up. I missed 20th Anniversary Prime the first time because of lack of funds (and I wasn't 18 yet to put it on layaway, damn you Wal-Mart!). I can deal with the blue gun, and the short smokestacks aren't that great, but they'll suffice.

I would have been interested if this was a $50-60 all plastic release. That seems in keeping with Unicron or Primus.

I saw the old one for $20 and passed. If I saw it for $20 again, I might be more inclined to get it but it's not altogether my thing.

I like the paint durability that plastic offers and prefer the lighter weight.

I dig that this is in the TF Classics line, mind you.

But the last time we saw an $80 Prime it didn't exactly fly off the shelf in my area. I think they could have sold more had they stripped this one down a bit and eliminated to die-cast.

People who want the $80 die cast Prime either bought the Japanese version or the first release 20th anniversary Prime.

If they'd wanted to distinguish this one more, I would have also enjoyed decals based on G1 Prime's sticker sheet.
