Toys R Us Movie Jetstorm and Wingblade

By Visitor on Saturday, January 12, 2008

Just in from CD are new images of MORE Transformers movie repaints - had enough yet, ready to say uncle? Hasbro is pulling more molds from the Cybertron line and slapping them into movie boxes. Toy R Us will be offering exclusive repaints of Ultra class Jetstorm and Wingblade that have both been repainted in an light military gray theme. See images of them here.

my biggest problem with these repaints...they don't retool the faces in the same style of the original movie TFs.

STOP WITH THE REPAINTS ALREADY!!!

You wanna get rid of your unsold TF stock, Hasbro? Two words: FIRE SALE!!!

It's not like they had these stacks of unsold Jetfires and Wingsabers and put a new coat of paint on them, did they? It's only a repaint in concept, not practice. They reused the molds to make a deliberate production run of these suckers.

Wow...
I almost couldn't tell the difference between them just looking at the paint. I think that's horrible. They are both so bland and blah. I already have Jetfire/Skyshadow and Wing Saber in their BETTER Cybertron paints. I am perfectly content with that.

Wow... DVXPrime... you have absolutely NO clue how toys are made, do you? This isn't "old stock" they're trying to move, it's a new production run with a different coloring. As for the toys themselves, I'd rather not pay 100+ dollars for a Wing Saber, so this is good news for those of us who didn't find one the first time around. And for the record, that Jetstorm looks GOOD in those colors.

Big fat PASS. As much as I like TF:A and it's figures, I'm starting to hope the toy line will fall flat on it's face this summer because they kept pumping out crap like this. GET OVER THE MOVIE STOCK ALREADY, HASBRO!

I like them both, and will probably get both seeing as I never got the Cybertron versions (Didn't like Jetfire or Sky Shadow, and couldn't find Wing Saber), so these are both welcomed to my collection. However I do agree, the repaints need to stop. Enough is enough...

Jet storm's face could maybe pass for movie style, the other not even close.

Hasbro loves it's repaints. What are you going to do?

If they did a nice grey repaint of the Classic's mold, I'd be all over that. I don't care what name they stuck on it. I think I'd buy a couple different styles of repaints of that mold. These 2 I wasn't that crazy about. While the looked ok, they're not quite something I'd rebuy.

Im not gonna lie the new realistic colors on wingsabre look good but this is pathetic that the movie line has to use figures from cybertron and energon....hasbro sucks with this line the core actual movie figures are a complete letdown looking nothing like the actual bots and to add insult to injury they take figures from two other lines...come on really thats just sad.....their redemption is the animated line and hopefully the classics 2 line....

Man, I have to say that I can't wait for the Animated line. I just want out of this movie stock too! Don't get me wrong, I love the movie and it plays at my house on repeat 24/7 (ok, not really, but I love the movie). I just want the hunt to be fun again. I am pretty much in a "stasis lock" if you will for hunting new figures down. My most recent purchase was Cybertron Soundwave on eBay. Just haven't found much enjoyment in the movie line. Hopefully, Classics 2 and Animated will revive my passion again. Oh, the days of Energon and Cybertron hunting...I miss those!

I might pick up Wingblade (if it's a decent price; I probably wouldn't pay full Ultra-class price for one unless I get desperate) for the sake of getting a mold I kind of liked but passed on. At the same time, though, I'd rather have no figures released than continually repainting Cybertron figures. The only one that I see as a (near) must-buy is the Downshift repaint as Big Daddy.

No, I DON'T have a clue as to how toys are made...my point is that whether Hasbro is trying to unload their stock, or just reusing old molds, I think that these repaints are ripoffs. If these are toys based on the movie, how about at least retooling their faces to show in SOME way that they have some relation to the "established" movie characters. (Yes that includes Wreckage, Dreadwing and the other movie toys that appear "after the end of the movie!)

Another point...look at the toy molds for Cybertron and Energon, and the molds for the movie toys. Cybertron's line is designed differently from Energon (for example, Hot Shot). How does a Cybertron mold toy fit in with the Movie line?

Hasbro is wasting time and money on repaints/retools/remolds when they should be focusing on the newer lines (Movie/Animated/etc). Making toy buyers and collectors pay full price for a Cybertron repaint/remold whose line expired over a year ago is, IMHO, a ripoff.

However, let me thank you for the factoid on how Hasbro is reusing their molds instead of just painting over them. I still wouldn't pay full price, though.

If you don't like them, just don't buy them, simple as that. But in the toy business, repaints are a way of life. Unlike GI Joe, where they take individual pieces and create new characters, you have Transformers that doesn't work like that. In order for HasTak to get the maximum return on their investment, they do repaints. They've been doing it for over 20 years now (G1 Ironhide and Ratchet or G1 Seekers, anyone?)

You want to continue to complain that they keep just reusing the same molds, and then you turn around and complain when a figure like Starscream is released in Classics, and you just HAVE to have the entire Seeker fleet.

People, you can't have it both ways.

DVX, these are store exclusives. When a store asks Hasbro for an exclusive, of course they are just going to do repaints. New molds (and even retools) are expensive and they aren't going to do them for a single retailer.

These 2 look kind of cool, and I don't have the original mold of either. I may get at least one.

"Making toy buyers and collectors pay full price for a Cybertron repaint/remold whose line expired over a year ago is, IMHO, a ripoff."

I'm gonna have to take issue with that statement... they're not MAKING you buy anything... In fact, these store exclusives cost them more to produce then regular production runs, and they'll still probably sell for their regular retail value. Hasbro is taking a hit on making these available, without impeding the development of new product. (It's not going to be the same team working on both... just because they're doing one thing, doesn't mean they can't do something else with other people at the same time)

Meanwhile, people like me who missed out on a mold like Wing Saber, and don't want to pay way over double retail value for one, get the chance to have one. (If you want to talk "Ripoff", just try and find a decent priced Wing Saber out there on the market. He regularly gets put up for around $100)

I passed up Jetfire before, because I didn't like his cybertron colors, but this military camo... I think it works, both for the character, and the close-to-realistic bomber mold used for him. While I don't think Wing Saber's mold will look all that great in the new colors, especially if I combine him with my Cybertron Optimus... I can deal with that, or do a quick repaint of him myself. (A little effort + getting the figure for retail value = way better than buying from the secondary market)
