It's really kinda simple. If you don't like Takara's version, buy Hasbro's ^^

For me, Takara Henkeis from HLJ is almost half the price of the few Hasbro Classics we've gotten in norwegian toy stores, so it's really simple. Plus, chrome if cool ;p

(Takara also painted Grimlocks face, which makes Takara Grimlock > Hasbro Grimlock (which I have), not matter how much chrome it has :<)

Sunstreaker's chrome makes sense. Prowl's chromed spoiler does not make sense. It would have been better if Tomy added more paint applications to Prowl. As he is, Henkei Prowl is no better than Universe Prowl.

wow, people actually do this

I had a friend in high school that wanted to do this to a car.

Not that he thought chrome was cool, he just thought it would be super-obnoxious (and, therefore, fun) to drive it around blinding people.

Look, a lot of the chrome that is being used is put on places that never had Chrome before - Like Bumblebee or Starscream. So how you can call that in honor of the G1 guys is beyond me.

While what you say is true, it’s in honor of G1 to just have chrome on some part of the figure. Although the chrome’s not where it was originally, to someone who hasn’t kept close track of the hobby, or just remembers the figures from childhood the chrome would still be reminiscent of the originals.

Basically it’s meant to mirror the look of the originals. Although not 100%, just having the chrome might appeal to someone who hasn’t played with the figures since they were young.

Then TT really needs to learn to chrome places where the chrome will look good. Chroming Bumblebee's hubcaps, for example, would be sweet. Chroming that little piece on his hood looks stupid. With Grimlock he does indeed look like a KO because they chromed so much of him that he looks ridiculous because the other parts aren't chromed. If they had chromed say his dino teeth and claws, that would have looked much better.

Fact is TT has been all over the place when it comes to chrome. Sometimes they chrome the parts that were chrome in G1. That's fine. Other times they chrome spots that were never chromed before and it looks :wtf

TT needs to stick with only chroming the parts that were chromed in G1, if possible. If that's not viable then they need to sit down and think long and hard about where the chrome would look best. No just whatever random part of the toy happens to be on the designer's mind.

And the TT chrome fan club needs to drop the "you're all just jealous" line. It's a weak argument. I for one am not jealous that my Classics Starscream lacks random chrome on his null rays that was applied for no real reason.

If you're on board with TT spraying chrome on random parts, cool. I'm sure you can discuss the matter effectively by explaining why you prefer chrome in this spot or that spot. Resorting to "you're just jealous"? That's just weak.

I agree.

When I bought Takara Megatron I wanted the Black and red deco. But his chrome is all random. Crome knee pads? And they painted his chest (light grey plastic) silver, but not all the light grey plastic? Why paint his chest but noy his shoulders, arms and thighs? It is the same plastic, right?

The chrome and paint apps do seem random at times. And for an additional cost?

It's a tough choice...

Luckily we have each other. To keep informed and make the right choice for each of us...

can we all agree that between the 2 lines there's a pretty good line in there?

I've got no problem admitting when TT has Hasbro beat. Both Henkei! Convoy and Megatron are better then Classics Prime and Megatron, and I'm happy I spent the money on the Henkei! figures.

And if TT releases an other Henkei! figure I feel is better then the Hasbro version I'll admit it, no problem. So yeah, I do agree it is one fantastic line when you put the two together.

The whole "well you're just jealous of TT's ZOMG AWESOME CHROME" stuff just reeks of ass hatery though.

I'm jealous of people who have the Hasbro Starscream, because I have the Henkei version and he's a piece of crap.

They're available at ToyWiz if you scroll down, but it's criminally marked up. As much of a fan of the figure as I am, I wouldn't pay that price. This was the only toy site that had them though :shrug

You'll probably have better luck on eBay.

See, Henkei Sunstreaker just scanned the car of the biggest asshole in the universe.

And Grimlock scanned his T-Rex.

Chrome is cool if like, the actual parts in question would be chromed IRL.

Well, I guess it all depends on how douchey the guy is who can afford to trick out the car.

Lord Madhammer 2008-08-05 @ 7:27 pm

FYI, I think a chromed spoiler looks ghey even if it is a callback to 1984. Chrome is cool if like, the actual parts in question would be chromed IRL.

That said, I still like Henkei Ramjet.
