Reports are coming in from a Q&A session with IDW's More Than Meets The Eye writer James Roberts. Who's coming back? What's planned for the future, and how is the Decepticon Justice Division taking Megatron's defection to the Autobots? Read on to find out, but may will be SPOILERS! There are no plans at the moment for Unicron. Roberts says he's a character they're keeping "on the top shelf." Good plan, as Unicron Fatigue is kind of a thing as much as the character is used.
Among the characters planned to appear and/or return in the future are Xaaron, Fortress Maximus, the Scavengers, and Drift. (Hats off to Roberts for making Drift, shogun of the Gary Stus, into a character that I genuinely want to catch up with!) Roberts says that he only creates new characters when no extant characters will fill the role he needs- Pharma wasn't originally supposed to be a part of "Remain in Light," for example.
Also returning soon are the DJD. Roberts described them as the "big powder keg" under MTMTE Season 2, and their reaction to Megatron should be key to what's going on.
Other story points we're going to revisit at some point include Rung's mysterious alternate mode and The Coffin, first referenced very early into MTMTE, which was recently revealed to contain Rodimus. Roberts says that was always the plan, but in the post Dark Cybertron world the background of how he got there has changed somewhat.
Another story from the prewar era of "Shadowplay" and "Chaos Theory" is also planned. Roberts also says that the concept of the Conjunx Endura - an analog to human marriage - is going to be further explored in the future.
