Happy Friday! This week Retro Robot Radio and TFormers.com start the Ladybird Books stories with the first in the series, Autobots' Lightning Strike by science fiction author John Grant from 1985. In this story the Autobots attempt to harness the power of a lightning storm, but the Decepticons can't be far behind can they? Art in this book is done by Mike Collins (Marvel Comics artist) and Mark Farmer (Marvel and DC comic artist).
Via Autobase Aichi, we've learned that the website animeanime.jp has posted sample images of the Transformers Masterpiece Official Guide. The pages show Ultra Magnus, Bluestreak, Wheeljack, and a cameo by Bumblebee, but the most time in this set of samples is devoted to Masterpiece Sideswipe, who is covered extensively with official photos and design sketches. Happy Friday! Another classic audiobook from the 1980s comes ot you from Retro Robot Radio and Tformers.com. This one is Slaves of the Insecticons, and is set after the book we shared two weeks ago, Jaws of Terror.
This book starts to work in some of the season 2 characters, with Blaster appearing on the inside cover, Skyfire fighting the Decepticon jets, and a super rare appearance of the Deluxe Insecticons as villians!
Autobase Aichi has posted a description of the upcoming Transformers Masterpiece Official Guide, as well as a link to the cover image. The book is due for release in Japan in August and will run 3024 Yen (about USD $30), and will feature extensive photographs of all Masterpiece releases as well as previously unreleased sketches and interviews with the designers. Autobase Aichi reports that Amazon Japan has made a listing for a "Transformers Masterpiece Official Guide," a 96-page softcover guidebook costing 3024 Yen. Autobase Aichi also suggests the book is due for release on July 30th. No other information is known except that the publisher is one "Village Book," and thus the book will not be a part of Million Publishing's Generations line of guidebooks. The origin of the Dinobots is taken from the Marvel Comics stories, where they were trapped in the Savage Land. They were not created by Wheeljack and Ratchet. Megatron has a new weapon he plans to use against the Autobot, THE CRUSHER! Even has an early appearance of Ramjet!
Megatron's quest for oil has him pumping ocean water under the Brazilian rainforest to push oil out of underground reservoirs to the surface. In doing so, he again instigates worldwide disasters by drawing off a warm ocean current and drastically altering weather patterns. Story by John Braden and art by Pablo Marcos and Judith Marcos.

Megatron takes slaves, kills millions of people, destroys cities and invents fracking! This is some children's book.
Our second weekend spotlights one of the more light hearted audiobooks. This is one of the earliest attempts at a story set in year one of the Transformers on Earth. The Autobots need to find energy for themselves, but unlike the Decepticons, they are not willing to steal it... so maybe they can win it in a car rally? Of course things are never easy with the Decepticons nearby!

Out first book will Scott Siegel's 1984 classic The Battle for Cybertron with Illustrations by Earl Norem. The new edition will include a covers of the "Transformers Lost Age" (Age of Extinction) as well as the Generations and Masterpiece lines. The book will also include a new 5th Anniversary Generations poster, comic by Yuki Oshima and interviews with the people working on the toys and of course Shouki.
