When Hasbro wanted to roll out their own cartoon series in the 80s, They went to Japan to work with Takara's Microman and Diaclone toy lines. Drawing the primary sources for the Transformers G1 toys that debuted in 1985. While only a small portion of the Microman series were utilized for Hasbro's Transformers. Microman toys were sold in America well before in 1976 as Mego's Micronaughts toys. Great to see these line together again under the Hasbro umbrella. Which, are set to join forces in the new IDW REVOLUTION crossover extravaganza!

Diaclone was launched in Japan by Takara in 1980, the same year I was born. And that’s where my childhood association with Diaclone ends, as growing up in the UK it was primarily Transformers that had my attention. Trickles of Diaclone-based figures did reach the UK but in London I saw neither sight nor sound of them. In addition to Japan and Asia, countries like France, Italy, Holland, Germany and some Scandinavian territories had Diaclone toys on shelves.

Shout! Factory, a multi-platform media company, and Hasbro Studios announced a strategic distribution collaboration to bring the iconic animated feature, TRANSFORMERS – THE MOVIE to the home entertainment marketplace in the U.S. and Canada. This full-length animated adventure boasts the voice talent of Orson Welles in his final role and an all-star voice cast that includes Peter Cullen, Eric Idle, Casey Kasem, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Robert Stack and Frank Welker. The announcement was made today by Shout! Factory’s founders Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos; and Hasbro’s Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer Stephen Davis.




From the I Told You So Dept.: a 30th Anniversary release of 1986's animated The Transformers: The Movie will be coming to home video in September according to the official Transformers Facebook page. No details are available yet except that the film has again been fully remastered. It's extremely unlikely that they would skip an HD Blu-Ray release of this version. Uproxx has posted official photography of the SDCC GI Joe And The Transformers Set! Featuring in this set are Scarlett with Powerglide (as made from the Cobra Rattler mold) and Zartan with Soundwave (As represented by a HISS Tank with a really nice deco.) Interestingly, the article mentions that in addition to the San Diego Comic Con and HasbroToyShop releases, the set will be available at Fan Expo Canada in September. Will this be true of the other SDCC sets? No clue yet, but keep reading for the photos!
