Joe Moscone, formerly the PR agent that handled Hasbro's entertainment brands such as Transformers, GI Joe, etc., is auctioning off his collection of figure for charity. For the benefit of Receptions For Research: The Greg Olsen Foundation, Moscone is auctioning off a fairly impressive collection heavy on convention and SDCC exclusives. During the long development cycle of Jagex's Transformers universe, a great deal of secondary media was created to support it. One company contracted to do some of that work, Mi, has come forward to reveal their hand in that process, samples of motion comic "episodes" that would have been used to advertise and promote the then-upcoming game. Jagex's Transformers Universe game has run the course of its short life, but the project had a lot of art designed for it, and the artists that contributed have been posting their work for all to see. We have a range of pieces from Oliver Miles and Sam Beattie including elements that never had a chance to be used in the game. Transformers Universe, the online multiplayer game from Jagex is quite dead, and artist Tom Stockwell has posted several pieces of art related to character designs used or intended for use in the short-lived game. The depicted characters generally have a Mentor title denoting non-playable and generally previously established characters like Arcee or Megatron. in development, gamesindustry.biz reports that Jagex has pulled the plug on Transformers Universe, the MMO turned MOBA turned whatever they wound up calling it. The Runescape creator will move on to developing its own IP once again; the move is not entirely unexpected after a recent round of layoffs. Keep reading for more details!
Its been a long and rocky road for Jagex's Transformers Universe game. Starting with a very promising preview at BotCon 2011, things moved into the slow lane for the next 3 years with numerous updates and full a change out of the backend moving from an MMO to MOBA style play. The game's Ersatz Transforming robots were not attractive to players and after disappointing earnings, Jagex is said to begin layoffs according to game gamesindustry.biz.
The official Youtube channel for Transformers Universe has posted two new videos, giving a brief rundown of the set up of the game's world. One is narrated from the point of view of Optimus prime, and the other takes the form of a report to Megatron. Jagex has confirmed today that both Wheeljack and Knock Out, known to fans worldwide as characters from the Transformers TV series, will appear as playable warriors within TRANSFORMERS UNIVERSE.
Premature news of their inclusion reached media overnight. While Jagex is willing to confirm their plans to include these, and many other, signature bots, further details of their weapons, equipment, and special attacks will not be forthcoming at this time.
Youtube user Sooo Mungry has uploaded a video based on the currently running beta of Transformers Universe. Jagex, the makers of Transformers Universe, have posted "Under The Hood," the first episode of a series answering fan questions about the upcoming game. Following the Transformers Universe Founders Initiative that just launched now launched. Jagex has posted a FAQ with details on wants fans get when paying for the different packs they are offering. The big surprise is the $449.99 for the Cybernite pack includes a 1--inch figurine (statue)! This is all very well and good, but it seems to be a bit strange that the game that has been promoted at "Free to Play" for years now has a twist that is going to cost more than meets the wallet. Transformers Universe Founders Initiative has now launched. Before you get too excited about this. Jagex wants you to pay between $44.99 for Silver and $449.99 for the Cybernite levels. According to their site this fee will give early access to valuable resources and bonuses as well as be placed on a Founders Honor Roll, secure early access to Transformers warriors, limited edition bodykits and a collection of in-game items.
