eBay Bans Unmarked Megatron Gun Toys

By artimus on Saturday, April 28, 2007

eBay pulls ALL unmarked Megatron toys that transform into a Walter P-38. It is a blanket ban on all reissues, Masterpieces and vintage Megatrons. Violations may result in suspensions of sccounts. Please read further for their reply.

I just did a search for Megatron Masterpiece and I noticed that they were all gone! I then contacted Ebay customer and this is what I got in reply:

"The sale of weapons is highly regulated by the government, and these items can harm the eBay Community. For these reasons, eBay restricts the sale of weapons to a very few types, and these sales can take place only under very specific conditions.

For example, members are permitted to sell airsoft guns, cap guns, paint ball guns, toy guns, and replica, look-alike, or imitation firearms but only if the sellers meet all of the following conditions:

+ The item has a clear, permanent marking (usually a plug inserted in the barrel or a blaze orange marking) that meets federal regulations

+ The item can't be converted to shoot a projectile

+ Any picture of the item in the listing is the actual item for sale, not a stock photo

+ No picture of the item is a close up of only part of the item. For example, a photo that displays only the tip of the gun is not permitted.

+ The item, seller, and buyer are located in the United States

+ The item is shipped within the United States

We realize that some replica firearms are very old and may lack permanently attached markings, but even if this is the case, we still do not allow them to be listed on eBay.

For more information on the eBay Firearms, Weapons, and Knives policy, please visit:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/firearms-weapons-knives.html

Please note: violation of this or other eBay policies may result in forfeit of eBay fees on canceled listings, limits on account privileges and account suspension."

I then did a search for Megatron reissue, and Megatron G1. NOTHING showed up. I don't know what spurred this, but it may have something to do with the Virginia Tech shootings and the grief Ebay got for selling the killer the bullets. If anyone as any input please feel free to divulge.

I actually thought it was because of the Va. Tech shootings, but BBTS blowing the whistle on the sellers actually does make a lot of sense. However, do you think they would stoop that low? I mean, this hurts the rest of us that want a MP-05 without a plug glued in the nozzle (and yes, I read that BBTS did in fact glue there's in).

I'm sure this probably has a little to do with BBTS, but I don't think it's coincidental that this action follows the V-Tech massacre. After any national tragedy such as this, you always have the politically-correct elite side with the anti-gun nuts, and blaim the method, not the insane person behind it. This on top of the crazy law that's currently in place about toy guns, it's no wonder that Ebay has jumped on the 'banned' wagon.

So can I sell a real P-38 Walther on ebay as long as it has an orange plug in the barrell? I kid, I kid...but it's pretty ridiculous.

you want to find a megatron that is unmarked. It is very simple. Don't do a search for megatron, do a search for MP-05. I found a few listings just now of unmarked megatrons.

...whats all this about ebay holding out on Megs. Do a search "masterpiece megatron".
You will find some there. Unmarked. And one selling from Hong Kong too.

Yes yes, you'll probably see a few Megs pop up from here on, but most likely they will get pulled in the future and get a warning. I see many sellers Transforming their toys or even censoring their toys, but I still think enough other sellers will point to their auctions and e-mail eBay 'HEY!, He gets to sell it, why not me?'

That old George Carlin quote is right on!

However, I don't think this has anything (or much of anything) to do with BBTS. I seem to recall reading that the VA tech shooter bought extended amo clips (holding more bullets) on ebay.

This is probably just the typical knee jerk reaction people have compounded by their company name being pulled into things.

I just wanted to confirm that BBTS indeed had nothing to do whatsoever with the Ebay ban of Megatron, but we appreciate you thinking of us :) Our capped MP-05's are 98% sold-out and we would not ever interfere with other sellers anyways. Thanks again to all of you who bought from us. We don't have any problems with other people selling unmodified versions, we just had to protect ourselves and obey the laws, so thats why ours had the orange caps.

Thanks
