IDW's Ken Christiansen talks about the taking the Transformers brand in a new direction and Megatron's Aligned design: "The assignment was to envision a near-future tank, so I did a few quick sketches, got feedback from Siebenaler, and actually only did a colored line art pass, because of a time crunch. After the presentation and following feedback, I was asked to render it fully, with no changes, along with the Prime truck, that was also initially done as colored line art, for the same pitch. Since Classics began in 2006, everyone has asked for just about everything to be remade in that style. Blitzwing was generally felt to be a prominent omission though, especially when Universe produced an Octane. It's taken nearly seven years since the outset of modernized G1 character remakes, but Blitzwing has finally reached the front of the line as one of the first two of the Thrilling 30 anniversary line to reach retail. Thanks to IDW Publishing who have sent out an update on their August 2013 Transformers Comic Book Solicitations. We have the summaries and cover images to preview a blast of new comics that will be closing out the summer. Get the scoop on Transformers: Prelude, Transformers: Robots in Disguise #20, Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye #20, Transformers Regeneration One #94, Transformers: Monstrosity #3 (of 4), and Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters #4!

TRANSFORMERS: REGENERATION ONE #91—the comic book that continues the original 1984 TRANSFORMERS series, courtesy IDW Publishing and Hasbro—launches an all-new story arc! “DESTINY” part one sets the stage, as BLUDGEON and SOUNDWAVE launch their ultimate assault against the universe, thanks to legendary writer Simon Furman—who we sat down with for a brief chat!—and artist Andrew Wildman. TRANSFORMERS: REGENERATION ONE #91 is out now at comic book stores everywhere, and for download online.

IDW's Ken Christiansen talks about the taking the Transformers brand in a new direction and the G1 inspired long nose Optimus Prime design: " The request was to keep him a long nose, as he now appears in the film series, and if I remember right, that was just about it. Of course I ventured the question. "I don't have to put those flames on him, do I?" But I did keep in line with the movie logic of the long nose, giving him more mass to work with in robot mode, and we added in a roof fairing over the extended cab to build it out even more."

As Hot Rod attempts to reconcile the races of Cybertron, countless (okay, about four) Deception subfactions set their sights on the Transformers' homeworld. "Destiny (Part One)" is written by Simon Furman, penciled by Andrew Wildman, inked by Stephen Baskerville, colored by John-Paul Bove with assistance from James Stayte, and lettered by Chris Mowry. Thanks to IDW Publishing and iTunes for the three page preview of the More Than Meets the Eye issue #17 comic book: REMAIN IN LIGHT! MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE's first full-blown epic moves into high gear as RODIMUS leads his crew to the gates of heaven -- or hell. But larger forces are closing in and an ancient plan is reaching fruition -- and as an old friend calls time on the AUTOBOTS' quest, one thing becomes clear: the LEGISLATORS are on the march.

Thanks to MTV Geek we have some new looks at the Scout and Elite class Transformers Construct-Bots. Thanks to Simon Furman who updated his blow with a summary / preview of the the script for the next Transformers: ReGeneration comic book that will be out this week. Get the insights from Furman who discusses his post-script musings on the issue, avoiding anything too spoilery… but of course it contains a certain amount of stuff you may or may not want to read at this stage, so you have been warned. Thanks to Shout! Factory who's sent out the cover art for the Transformers Generations 1 DVD cover to Season 3 and 4. Looks more art work by Andrew Griffith. Looks like artwork by Andrew Griffith. This one's got Rodimus holding up the Matrix to ward off the Decepticon warriors Scourge, Cyclonus and Galvatron as Unicron's head looms in the distance. Pretty spiffy. This set will be out April 20, 2010 for an MSRP of $29.95. Check out the cover and more details after the jump.
