The Year of the Goat is nearly here, and courtesy of Robotkingdom we know that Hasbro as always is readying a pair of commemorative Platinum Edition figures for Asian markets and US ToysRus stores. This year it's Masterpiece Soundwave and the Laser Optimus Prime mold from late G2. Huh? Both figures are rendered in what appears to be the official YotG color scheme, which is clear plastic and copper. ...Huh. But MP Soundwave even comes with a similarly-decoed set of cassettes! Keep reading to see the photos.

New pictures of Ultimetal Optimus Prime have surfaced on Twitter, and they give a much better sense of just how much robot $800 gets you. Coming up to Metroplex's torso-boxes and standing head and shoulders above even the original, larger MP-1 Optimus Prime, you have to figure that the price of the figure isn't too bad if you figure it by the pound... Keep reading to see the photos!

RobotKingdom's Facebook page has posted a link to Kuma Style's video review of TFC Phobus! Phobus is Not-Divebomb, the fifth part of the Ares combiner (who looks an awful lot like Predaking). Not only does he have a massive set of wings expandable to a Predaking-appropriate wingspan, but even comes with Power Core Combiner-compatible connectors so he can quit the Predacons in a huff and go form his own combiner team with blackjack and drones. Keep reading to see the review!

Singapore's Planet Iacon has posted a gallery of in-hand images of the super-big, super-elaborate, super-expensive Ultimetal Optimus Prime! The figure comes with a near-complete set of magnetic snap-on armor, a fancy base with stand, a Matrix of Leadership that also fits on the stand, and eyes that light up and a faceplate that moves when it talks. And it's huge. As is the price- about $760 USD. Keep reading to see the photos, which is as close as most of us are ever going to get to owning one of these!

Transformers Legacy: The Art of Transformers Packaging, by Jim Sorenson and Bill Forster is the newest entry in the realm of Transformers art books, and the latest offering from the team that brought us The Ark and The Allspark Almanac. But Transformers Legacy goes in a different direction from prior art books which focused on the art of a particular video game or TV show. You may think you've already seen it all when it comes to G1 and G2 box art, but you've never seen it like this. And I believe most everyone will find at least a few things within that they've never seen before! Read the full review!

A funeral is crashed on Earth, and the "deceased" crashes back! And a trial within the walls of Metroplex is a mockery of justice. Meanwhile two robot autopsies are planned, one for each planet... only one of the subjects is still alive! The Transformers Vs. GI Joe #3 is written by Tom Scioli and John Barber, with art, colors and lettering by Scioli. Continue to full review

A couple of short videos have appeared on YouTube that demonstrate the uber-expensive Ultimetal Optimus Prime and some of its special features. Namely, the magnetically attached outer shell and the animated faceplate that moves in time with the Peter Cullen voice recordings. I don't know if it's worth the asking price of roughly $760 USD, but it sure is impressive. Keep reading to see the videos!

RocketPunchArmy has uploaded a video review to Youtube featuring the EX Gokin Alpha Trion. This licensed figure represents the (non-transforming) G1 cartoon model of the character, with option parts to display it as the earlier form of A-3. Keep reading to check out the embedded video and see how this stacks up as a collectible grade figure and how it compares to other Transformers toys!

BigBadToyStore has just posted preorders with images for TakaraTomy's Transformers Legends versions of Generations Arcee, Chromia, and Windblade! Arcee's a significant improvement and more accurate to the G1 cartoon color scheme. Chromia is... more accurate to the G1 cartoon color scheme. But also very much worth mentioning is Windblade, who is a signficantly better match for the color scheme used for the character in the comic. It's possible the face paint is superior as well, but better photos will be needed to say for sure. In the meantime, keep reading to get preorder links to BBTS and see the photos!

Acid Free Gallery is featuring a series of ten character portrait pieces of prominent Generation One Autobots and Decepticons by artist Thong Le (also known as WEAPONIX), which will be for sale at this year's NYCC, taking place in a short two weeks. Priced at $50 per faction set of five, or $15 per individual print while supplies last, variant metallic sets will also be offered for $75 each. For preview images and full details, keep reading!

There's been a number of Transformers Playing Cards packs released over the years. Fans who missed out can get what looks to be the snazziest looking Generation 1 themed set yet from Aquarius Posters. The full color cards are beautifully adorned with actual G1 box art from the classic toys. Only Ratchet and Megatron are shown, but we can assume there's more than meets the hand judging from the many robots shown on the box cover.
