Wave 1 Legends - Movie - Figures

Wave One Legends

Being that the legend class figures are pretty simple, this review will serve as a quick look at 4 of the Wave One figures (Jetfire and Sideswipe have previously been covered.

Optimus Prime

Bio

Strength
Intelligence
Speed
Endurance
Rank
Courage
Fireblast
Skill

Robot Mode

This year's Legend of Prime is lightyears beyond the 2007 version. Definitely more color and detail to be had. There's even a slot behind his head where you can connect Jetfire to make the Combo Prime as seen in the movie. Jetfire connects in Alt mode.

Some people might take issue to the legs. There are no knee joints, and the feet look more like extensions. Still, it beats the 2007 mold hands down.

Articulation

Feet:Stationary (Technical)
Knees:Stationary
Hips: Ball joint, 195 degree bend and 90 degree spread
Waist:Stationary
Shoulders:Ball joint, 180 degree rotation and 90 degree spread
Elbows:Pin hinge, 105 degree bend
Head:Stationary

Stiff legs, but the rest poses nicely.

Transformation

Fold the feet in to make the grill. Detach the waist and swivel 180 degrees. Line arms up forward then detach from chest and rotate 180 degrees back to make the tail of the semi. Fold head down, then fold legs up to make the nose of the cab. Fold arms down and snap into the tabs below the stacks.

Alt Mode

Prime's alt mode is much more accurate this time around. The detailing is all pretty much there, from the grille to the flames to the cab treatment.

Best of all, no unhidden robot parts for the most part. You can see the fists on the rear end, but they do a decent job of blending in with the rest of the scenery.

Verdict

Robot Mode: Only needs knees to be perfect, can combine with Jetfire
Alt Mode:Very nice Semi mode
Overall:Not perfect, but so close. And which Legends figure is perfect anyways?

Megatron

Bio

Strength

Fireblast
Skill

Robot Mode

Why is it that every Megatron in this movie line is different? The legends class is yet another take on Megatron. The right arm is the cannon arm again, except this time it has an elbow.

The left arm looks more like a chainsaw, but also has an elbow. The legs have a permanent bend and a small footprint, but doesn't seem to interfere with standing him.

Articulation

Feet:Stationary
Knees:Pin hinge, 135 degree bend
Hips: Ball joint, 225 degree bend and 30 degree spread
Waist:Stationary
Shoulders:Ball joint, 180 degree rotation, 30 degree spread and 90 degree inward flex
Elbows:Pin hinge, 165 degree bend
Head:Stationary

Hips are somewhat stiff, and the arms tend to get in the way if laying flat at his side

Transformation

Fold in the left arm, then the right arm to cover the head and form the turret. Fold the knees completely back and lock them in place with tabs located behind the hips.

Alt Mode

The resulting tank mode looks a bit... barren. At least the head is better hidden this time around. The treads have a surprising amount of detail

Surprisingly, the turret has the most functionality of all the Megatrons this time around. If done carefully, the turret can tilt 30 degrees and swing 45 degrees side to side.

Verdict

Robot Mode: An OK robot mode, but the arms and legs tend to tangle a bit
Alt Mode:Tank mode is a bit sparse, but the turret has good movement
Overall:Decent, but you'd think Megatron would get better treatment

Springer

Bio

Strength
Intelligence
Speed
Endurance
Rank
Courage
Fireblast
Skill

Robot Mode

At first glance, you might mistake Springer for Incinerator. Nothing doing. For one, Springer has molded fists. Suppose Hasbro learned from the previous offering.

Springer has a good look, but he's extremely limited in articulation. It's a shame, because with some more joints he could be quite the Legends figure.

Articulation

Feet:Stationary (Technical)
Knees:Stationary
Hips: Ball joint, 60 degree bend and 45 degree spread
Waist:Stationary
Shoulders:Pin hinge, 45 degree spread
Elbows:Pin hinge, 15 degree bend
Head:Stationary

Nothing to pose, really.

Transformation

Attach the legs together, then fold up the feet to form the tailfins. Fold the legs up and back to recede the head. Pull the nosecone up. Fold the right wing in first, then the left. Line up the props, then fold then down so they face forward.

Alt Mode

The Osprey mode is also pretty nice to look at. The wings spell out 5PR1 on the left and N63R on the right to spell SPRINGER.

Due to the transformation, you can point the props up to make a VTOL mode. You'll just have to live with the hands being exposed. Which is OK, because the feet make a mess of the rear end.

Verdict

Robot Mode: Very brick like, arms are permanently bent.
Alt Mode:Nice functionality, but the rear end is a bit kibbled.
Overall:Better joints would have went far here

Starscream

Bio

Strength
Intelligence
Speed
Endurance
Rank
Courage
Fireblast
Skill

Robot Mode

Starscream manages to keep his ape-ish profile even in the Legends mold. At first glance, it seems to look decent.

However, he ends up mostly being a brick like Springer. The arms have decent articulation, but the forearms look like they got ran over by a steamroller. Don't bother trying to pose the legs either.

Articulation

Feet:Stationary
Knees:Stationary
Hips: Stationary(technical)
Waist:Stationary
Shoulders:Ball joint, unlimited rotation and 90 degree inward flex
Elbows:Ball joint, 90 degree bend and unlimited rotation
Head:Stationary

Arms have decent posing, legs have none.

Transformation

Fold the legs forward to flip out the nosecone. Pull out the flaps on his back. Fold in the arms and try to position the forearms to blend with the stabilizers.

Alt Mode

One word: Horrible. Even looking at it from it's best profile (topside) there's a nice slit of open space.

Any other angle reminds you this is basically a folded up robot with a jet nose. Furthermore, nothing can be done with the hands so they just stick out sorely.

Verdict

Robot Mode: A frail looking brick
Alt Mode:A mediocre attempt for a jet to hide a robot.
Overall:Pass on this one
