Bantor - Beast Wars - Figure

Half baboon, half tiger, and all Maximal, Bantor was one of the last basic Fuzors released in the Beast Wars line.

Tech Specs
Maximal Fuzor: Bantor
Function: Jungle Warrior, Demolitions Expert

Temperamental and solitary. Bantor relishes his Fuzor animalian fusion. Enhanced by the attributes of a baboon's and tiger's instincts, he is a natural warrior in total flux with the ways of combat. Extremely versatile, Bantor combines the cunning patience of a tiger with the near-demented frenzy of a baboon, deleting the need for ammunition in close-range combat. Optimal Optimus's first choice for recon demolition in missions. Bantor can traverse deep into Predacon territory and escape undetected. Largely unknown by the enemy, his reputation for setting undetectable traps exceeds his identity, though his power-ram head and right hook are widely considered devastating.

Beast Mode
In beast form, Bantor is primarily dark brown with red, sliver, and green highlights for his baboon face. He has eight points of articulation; front hips, front knees, front ankles, and rear hips. Despite that, Bantor is limited to only a few poses due to his design. Also, by pressing on a small, brown button mid-way down his back, his entire head and mane lurches forward in a head butt action. This feature also comes into play in robot mode.

Transformation
Start out by pulling the front legs down, then pivot the hips back up to form the robot legs. Stand him up and rotate his waist and feet to they face forward. Separate the baboon head and tiger torso near where the button on the beast mode is, flip down the lower right arm. Raise the robot head up by pushing on the lever on his back and position the rear beast mode legs so that they face upwards to help get them out of the way.

Robot Mode
Considering how well detailed Bantor is in this mode, surprisingly little of it stands out. In robot mode, Bantor is mostly orange with brown for his hips, upper legs, and upper arms. There is some silver detailing to his face and his eyes are painted green. Quite posable with twelve points of articulation, this Fuzor also packs a punch… literally. Utilizing the same spring action feature in beast mode, pushing the button at the top of his right shoulder will activate the “right hook” mentioned in the tech specs. It can be tricky to lock the baboon head back into place in either mode. Just keep trying and it will eventually lock.

Overall
I mildly recommend Bantor. He looks better in beast mode than in robot mode, if only due to the lack of color as a robot. His spring-action gimmick can also be tricky to lock back into place, particularly in beast mode, which can cause the front legs to unlock as well. Still, he’s not the worst Transformers toy ever. He’s also not the best either.
