Red Alert & Longarm - Amrada - Figures

The original G1 Red Alert was a skilled but paranoid security director who once thought his best friend was trying to steal his job from him. This new Red Alert is more along the lines of Ratchet: a skilled physician with a warrior's spirit inside.

LONGARM

Crane Mode
Longarm measures 5.5 cm(2.2") long with a 7 cm(2.8") long winch. He's mostly very dark brown with mustard yellow and metallic silver. All six of his wheels roll, the crane turret rotates, the winch unfolds and elevates, and the hook on the end swings. His robot head is visible at his rear and he could definitely use some paint aps for his cab.

Transformation
Cab unfolds to become legs, sides become arms.

Robot Mode
Standing 6 cm(2.4") tall, Longarm is more colourful in this mode, with a blue head and chest and orange highlights. His Powerlinx socket and faction symbol are on his chest. His winch can either act as a third leg or swing over his head like RID Optimus Prime's ladder. He has joints at the shoulders, hips, and knees.

Overall
Longarm is one of the nicer Mini-Cons thus far.

RED ALERT

SUV Mode
At 17 cm(6.7") long and 7 cm wide, Red Alert dwarves most other Autobot cars. He's mainly white and dark gray with translucent red for his windshield and part of his roof, a metallic silver bumper, gold hubcaps, pale red crosses on his sides, a raised Autobot symbol on his hood, and assorted red, blue, and black highlights. He's got lots of fine detailing, from textured headlights to rear-view mirrors to rugged tires. His robot head is visible through his windshield and his doors open to reveal his robot arms. His heavy bumper and multiple shock absorbers indicate that Red Alert's used to traversing rough terrain. His wheels roll fine over hard surfaces and carpet and he feels strong and durable. Anyone who likes playing with toy cars should adore this guy.

Red Alert has four Powerlinx connectors in this mode. The two on his doors are dead ones. Attaching a Mini-Con to the one on his hood causes the front of the SUV to pop open like Hot Shot's driving claws. Pulling back on the connector fires a disc over half a meter and activates a "tap-tap-tap" firing sound. The black disc, which is painted orange on one side, looks like a wheel with an Autobot symbol in the centre. The last and most fun connector is located on Red Alert's roof. Attaching a Mini-Con to it and then pulling back prompts a flashing light, a high-pitched firing sound, and the left side of the roof to flip forwards, revealing a heavy missile launcher. The missile travels over a meter, and is one of the weirdest-looking projectiles ever to come with a Transformer. It's a clamp with a hinged jaw, presumably for snipping someone's limb off.

Pushing forward on the connector also activates the flashing light and causes Red Alert to say "RED A-LURT!" followed by a "WOOWOOWOOWOOWOO" siren sound. Some fans may find this feature tiresome, but I rather enjoy it. It actually sounds a bit like fellow #WiiGii!er Hooper_X, if he were speaking in a funny voice.

Transformation
Pretty simple. The front of the SUV folds down to become Red Alert’s chest, arms unfold from doors, legs fold out from underneath, and head flips up and snaps into place.

Robot Mode
At 19 cm(7.5”) tall, Red Alert rivals BW Ultras in size. His head is blue, translucent red, and metallic silver, and adorned with a grim expression. His arms and legs are almost all blue, which goes well with his white and red parts. Indeed, he looks more like a tough law enforcement officer than a peaceful-minded medic. He’s got lots of kibble in the form of doors on his shoulders, panels on his legs, and a large backpack, but fortunately it doesn’t detract all that much from his appearance. If anything, it makes him seem less spindly.

His gimmicks all work just as well in this mode. His missile launcher either mounts over his left shoulder, or detaches to fit in his right hand. His left arm ends in a socket, and there’s two translucent red attachments for it stored in his right leg panel. One is clearly a laser blaster, the other looks like some sort of repair tool. The Star Saber can also be inserted into the socket (or into his right fist, of course). His left leg panel unfolds to become a platform with a dead connector and a flip-up translucent red targeting screen. Unfortunately, there’s no clearance between the platform and Red Alert’s backpack, so you’ve got to move his leg forwards in order to deploy it.

On that note, all the people who have been crying over the lack of poseability in Armada can dry their eyes. Red Alert’s got joints at the head, shoulders(ratchet & hinge), upper arms, elbows(two hinges), hips, knees(hinge & swivel), and ankles. Although his kibble prevents him from being a contortionist, you can still get a good range of active poses.

Overall
Susp Sez: Red Alert should prove one of the most popular Armada toys. The SUV mode is strong and sturdy and equipped with heavy firepower and neat sounds. Robot mode is big, poseable, good-looking, and loads of fun. Definitely the best of the three first wave Autobots. 9/10
