Manta Ray - G2 - Figure

Although he started out as a Decepticon, Manta Ray was soon won over by the Autobot philosophy in the short but awesome G2 comic series. 'Con supporters must hate this guy.

Vehicle Mode: Manta Ray is some kind of twin pontoon racing boat, 12 cm(4.7") long. Sleek and smooth, he looks like something James Bond would drive, except that he's bright blue and yellow with a translucent red windshield and neon green stripes. His detailing includes a yellow G2 Autobot logo, green spots, and the phrase "Power By Autobot" on both pontoons. His engine/launcher can elevate to an angle of 30 degrees or so. Winding up the rotor clockwise and then pressing the button on top of the launcher sends the rotor slicing through the air, hacking up any unlucky Decepticon in its path.

Transformation: Remove the launcher, pull down the legs, swing out the arms, and slide up the head and chest.

Robot Mode: Manta Ray stands 9 cm(3.5") tall at the head, 10 cm(4") at the shoulders. He's still blue and yellow, with a green panel on his chest and a glowing translucent red eye visor. The shape of his head makes him look like he's wearing a sailor's cap, heh. Manta Ray's articulation consists of bending elbows and ankles and swing-out shoulders and hips. His launcher fits snugly into either fist.

Overall, Susp Sez: Manta Ray is a neat toy, very representative of the G2 line as a whole. Great gimmick, handsome-looking robot mode, and unique alt mode. Along with vintage vehicles, they just don't make enough aquatic vehicles in the TFs line. 8/10
