Smokescreen - G1 - Figure

First of all, I have the Japanese version. Smokescreen 4-5. The book style box is really cool, colorful pages of TF stuff on top of the plastic display box. Just a few days ago I bought a Starscream from Toys r Us, so it’s a USA version. Although I only have two "reissue" TFs but I believe the Japanese version is slightly better. Don’t bother comparing any reissues to original versions, toys from 20 years ago were better made and higher quality. At any rate, I noticed that all modern and reissues are made in China. The made in China quality is decent but if you know original made in Japan TFs then made in China is worse in quality. USA versions and Japanese versions G1 reissues are all made in China, BUT after comparing my TF I have to say they are probably all made at the "same place" but the Japanese version gets higher quality control. Ok, let’s get to Smokescreen now. First I noticed that most stickers are already placed on like original Transformers, the USA version the TF is bone naket with a huge sticker sheet including sticker eyes which is disgusting. This Japanese version Smokescreen comes with painted eyes. Then I noticed that the doors are plastic! I recall that the original smokescreen had metal doors. Then I inspect Smokescreen more, the fenders, bumpers and rear window piece are all plastic! I never owned the original smokescreen but I do have a Wheeljack and Wheeljack's whole car body was metal, plastic windows were inserted into metal parts. Therefore this leads me to believe that reissued G1s are the same physically but lots of parts got replaced by plastic! I have to point out that the weapons and missiles are chromed, like original TFs, USA reissued TFs at Toys r Us are not chromed and use cheap plastic. Well, I don’t want to complain too much about Smokescreen. At least now we all get a chance to buy G1s again.

Smokescreen - G1 - Figure

My Score:
This toy is definitely one of the best TFs ever. His mold (the same as Prowl and Bluestreak) is one of the best. No complaints, except posability, which can''t be fixed anyway. Brilliant. The Takara reissue is true to the original and worth buying.

My Score:
Actaully I did have the origional smokescreen and now have the Japanese reissue, all the poarts that are plastic on the reissue toy were also plastic on the Origional, the only noticable difference between the two is that as UK release my old smokscreen lacked the springs in the missile launchers (as did all the ex-diaclone molds in the UK and US), the same goes for Jazz and Tracks, except that reissue Jazz has some sticker changes
