I loved the G1 Smokescreen, he was the first ever Transformer I had, and now he's been reissued and I want him as soon as I'm able to, for now though I've decided to try out his Armada namesake and I'm actually happy with this toy, even though it is Armada.
Truck(?) mode: This is a nice mode, the colour is a little odd, but I guess it's just so kids can have bright colours. He rolls really well, the crane is fun and the little details are nice, some could have been given a bit of life with colour though.
If you attach Liftor, a not too bad mini con at all in both modes, to the powerlink on his crane, you'll activate a missile launcher, only the tip of the missile makes it stick, so you might need to remove that if you want a sudden activation. It's a solid mode, and the little winch is a winner, really cute idea. If this is a sign of improvement for the toy range, then keep it coming.
Robot mode: Not too bad in this mode, a little hard to stand for some reason and using the crane/missile launcher just makes him fall forwards, pity. His hands are actually painted on, which is a disappointment, wouldn't have minded if he had hands so he could use a weapon. There's a powerlink on his right arm, he only has two powerlinks. The one on his arm is a dead one, so maybe you can just put a Mini con there, like one from the Land Military pack.
He's solid enough, is actually fun enough, though not as fun as his truck(?) mode is, but still fun. Not bad at all, just could be better and more stable.
I had a choice of this guy or Sideways, I don't know if I made the right choice, but Smokescreen has me wanting another Armada toy, maybe I'll get Starscream and Blurr, if I can find them here in the UK.
