Sonar - Beast Wars - Figure

Ok, I'm not fan of the Beast Wars, I'll say that out right. I've never really seen the idea of animals becoming robots, it just seems silly to me, can you imagine a goldfish turning into a robot with all the firepower of, well, a goldfish? Each to their own I guess, but I think I'll stick to vehicles, anyway, my review on this very ugly Transformer.

Bat (!?) mode: Right, from what I read on the packaging, this is a Transmetal 2, can anyone please tell me just what that is because I'm not all that sure. Anyway, I found this toy in the toy shop that newly opened last year and decided to buy it for adding to me and fiancee's collection. It was cheap enough and even though there was no English, hence the manual not being at all useful, I soon figured out how to transform him by an easy method-run your fingers along the toy and you'll find each part that opens. This mode is weird, it's like an animal, a bat, and a machine mixed together. The bat parts are furry and look nice enough, but the machine parts make it look like someone went nuts with making it, really weird. The head itself is both machine and animal and that's really weird, but I do like the wings, great detail and the claws look nice, if useless. Not a great mode, but it is better than the next mode.

Robot mode: The robot mode, after cursing, screaming and almost destroying the toy-thank you Hasbro for the idea of making them easy to repair-I finally got it into it's robot mode and...wanted to bin it. God, it's ugly, it really is. The robot face looks like that Morbius guy from the Spiderman cartoon of the 90s, the arms are done as a foursome, two claws and what I think are stripped down robot arms. The chest is red machine style with fur outlining and if you open the tiny compartment, you'll find a green marble, which I later found out was called a Spark. Now I know it's all for the new generation of kids and all, but do you really want to see this guy after a horror movie, imagine it-"EEK! THERE'S A MONSTER BESIDE MY BED!" "That's no monster, it's just your bat toy."- Poor kid would be terrified.

Transforming him is a pain in the rear end, the legs keep coming off! I tend to just keep him in bat mode, I rarely ever use him in battles other than to be shot by my Beast Wars Megatron, who isn't great, but at least he looks like a robot in robot mode, kind of. I'm sorry, but I just can't like Beast Wars, each to their own, but I prefer G1 and RID, they had great vehicle modes-Predacons excluded-and Armada is slowly showing promise with solid and fun vehicles. If I had to choose between the not very pose able G1 Optimus Prime with it's great truck mode and high playability or Sonar with it's awkward transformation and low fun rate, I'll take Prime. Sorry, just my opinion.
