Megatron (16 Special) - Generation 1 - Figure

Since I was a child, I've always wanted to collect G1 Transformers toys, but I only could make this dream come true 20 years later, when Takara started the reissues and the toy that is going to be reviewed is the G1 Megatron Reissue, the version pre-Transformers Collection.

Packaging: The box itself is a perfect reproduction of the original box. It has all the grid pattern and the black-to-purple gradient which appeared on the Decepticons boxes. The front part of the box has the Takara original boxart and a window that shows the toy in gun mode inside of the box. The back of the box shows a Transformers battle scene which usually appeared, at least, on the back of the Japanese Transformers boxes.

Gun mode: Megatron transforms into a perfect chrome replica of a Walther P-38 gun in actual size. It comes with a 2-piece silencer, a 3-piece telescopic sight and a 3-piece stock, which attached to the gun, makes it looks very cool and intimidating for a 38 caliber gun. And it also come with 20 small plastic bullets, which means that not only it transforms into a gun, but it can really shoot too!

Transformation: Surely, this toy transformation is an amazing engeneering work, because seeing a robot with simetrical shape in a gun is not an easy job! The transformation itself is not that hard, but, it's better follow step-by-step what is shown in the instructions sheet and transform it carefully because the toy itself is very fragile, specially on the trigger part, which is made of plastic but carries the weight of the two legs whose metal part are a bit heavy.

Robot Mode: Honestly, Megatron has a really weird robot mode, specially on the trigger part, which looks like the Decepticon leader takes a lot of Viagra pills everyday! Even so, that doesn't mess up with the robot's charm at all who attracts a lot of attention at any shelf because of the chrome parts. Just like all G1 toys, Megatron has a few points of articulation (on the shoulders and on the joint of the legs to the trigger part) and loose some points on the articulation subject. Besides the scoop, which can be attached to his right arm turning itself into the fusion cannon, Megatron also comes with a sword and an infra-red laser gun, both chrome.

Overall, one of the coolest things in Megatron is that not only him can transform, his accessories can transform into weapons that he can use when in robot mode either! They can transform into a Particle Beam Cannon or into a Telescopic Laser Cannon (this last one attached to the gun barrel in robot mode). Besides, the mini plastic bullest can also be used with those two cannons, which means that both can really shoot! But, this is not only good things, one of the biggest problems of Megatron is just the chrome! You have to be cleanning all the time all the fat marks left by your fingers because if you just let go, your fingerprints could stay there forever damaging the chrome. And then, you can't remove them anymore!

Even being a G1 toy with limited poseability and, in certain way, a little bit weird, I found Megatron a very cool toy and a must-have item for any Transformers collection.
