Unicron & Deadend - Armada - Figures

Ok, like most of you, I actually yelped when I heard that this action figure would be available. I had found the pics of the old Beast Wars Neo Prototype years ago and thought that would be as close to having the Chaos Bringer in my home. Not anymore!

First we have the packaging. Absolutely beutiful! I was so reluctant to take it out of the box (and once I started on those twist ties I actually started to regret it). He just looks imposing in the plastic. That and the pictures show off both modes quite nicely.

Then we have Deadend. I would have thought that Unicron's minion should be named Galvatron, I mean he even has a fusion cannon, but I digress. Deadend is a neat design, with a mildly complex transformation. He has the little swivel points on the feet and such. Plus the aformentioned cannon. This guy can do some damage I bet. Leader-1 could blow holes in walls just from a square on his chest, so this cannon can probably lay waste to bases. He also fits quite nicely in Unicrons fully aticulated hands (more later) and the grove in planet mode.

Now on to the Big Guy him self. WOW. The LARGEST transformer I have ever had in my hands. Not to mention heavy! The detail is imaculate on the face, chest, legs...this was a labor of love. I really dig the rubber spikes on his arms. The hands are fully articulated, from holding a mini con, to having Unicron holding a note to my room mate reminding him to do the dishes WITH rude gesture.

Now for the power linx on him. I've seen the pics of the missile in his chest, but it still caught me off gaurd. Do not have him facing you while placing a minicon in his back, trust me. While they say the Starsabre (or Dark Sabre) is to be placed in his back, any minicon can work. Actually it looks pretty cool with the Sky Boom Shield, kind of like a back plate. But what ever you use to activate his back, this is what happens: Eye light up evily, then his chest explodes with a missle shooting straight out. When I first did this with my roomie in the living room, it was like that scene from Alien when the chest burster first appeared. Caught us both by surprise. He also has a missle launcher on eacg of his legs that fire multipul missles. The boy has some good fire power. Unicron also has a number of static points on his shoulders, and compartments in his legs and chest.

Transforming this guy was a bit tricky. I can usually do most transformers without the instructions, but with Unicron you most definitly need them. One of the most challenging Transformers made. One in Planet mode though you get a few treats. When you flex the "horns" the "jaws" open and close. Finally you have the ring around Unicron which can hold 24 minicons! The scarry part was I had enough to fill them up. Once you fill up the ring and place Deadend in his "niche" take Unicron and place him on the table. Makes a fantastic center/conversation piece. Ok, maybe not, but it is VERY impresive.

Unicron is the toy that no parent will get their kid. I'm sorry, he's $50.00. My mom would have said no. Fortunatly (or is it sad?) I'm 24 and so he's in my collection. He's a must have for any die hard fan.
