Sideswipe - TF Universe - Figure

One of the Official Transformers Collectors’ Convention toy exclusives was a repaint of Car Robots/Robots In Disguise Prowl. Because this mold has been reviewed several times, this review will highlight only the changes that were made on the exclusive.

Vehicle Mode:

Obviously, the mold has been repainted from the Prowl white to Sideswipe’s well-related color, red. The sirens have been removed, but instead of painting that part where the sirens were like the rest of the toy, a red sticker was put to cover the holes that the sirens left. In my opinion, this is very low quality, and is unacceptable for the price that we paid for it.

The doors for the mold were exchanged for heavier plastic doors that are more glossy than the rest of the toy, which was a pretty nice touch.

The black paint remains, but it is no longer on the doors and is lower on the hood – it now only comes up to the top of the fog lights. The amount of black is the same on the back. The Japanese letters are no longer around on the doors of the car, and the Autobot insignia has been moved up further on the hood just under the windshield.

Robot Mode:

The coloring of the head isn’t much too different. The white on Prowl’s head is now black, with the sides of black now painted dark gray and Sideswipe’s eyes are blue with black borders.

The forearms, thighs, and shoulders have stayed white and anything that was blue has been repainted as red. Also, the parts that were originally gray on the Prowl character, have been repainted black on the Sideswipe figure.

The missile launchers are the same, and the missiles for the Sideswipe figure are predominantly yellow with white tips.

Overall, the repaint is a fine repaint, and I believe that the replacement of the light plastic doors to the heavier ones was a good touch. The Prowl mode is indeed a great mold, which definitely highlights articulation and pose ability. The downfall of the figure was the apparent sticker that was used for the sirens, and at parts, a shoddy paint job.
