Scorponok is finally here! The current Decepticon Leader (at least till Megatron makes his eventual return) is out in the Energon 1.5 wave! How does he meaure up? Read on
Packaging is quite good, great artwork(note that the picture is colored like the Japanese version). Packaging also lists him as a Terrorcon so its safe to assume he is also the Terrorcon leader as all the other Terrorcons are basics. Perhaps he will revert to solely this rank once Megatron returns?
How is the figure itself? It ROCKS! Those concerned about the colors shouldn't worry, in person they flow alot better. Joints are also very tight, which is always a plus. Here's a brief mode by mode breakdown:
Scorpion Mode - Very nice, invokes images of G1 Scorponok. Holds toghter very well. There are wheels at the bottom of the tank treads so it rolls easily.10/10
Transformation - Pretty easy actually, was expecting something more difficult. The Robot to Jet mode is the most difficult, but that's not saying much. Somehow the box gives him a "4" in terms of transformation difficulty though, strange. 6/10
Robot Mode - Very imposing, has lots of great detail on him as there are pipes, guns and rivets all over the place. The face is a work of art.Bends at Knees, elbows, Feet move up and down. Legs move forward and backward although not side to side. Arms can rotate and go forward and backward. Full head articulation. Tail also moves quite a bit. Only one problem with it is the fact that he has no peg holes or way to hold weapons, but with hands like that its to be expected.
Jet Mode - Weakest of the three, but compared to the other two that's not a bad thing. His claws are kinda just pushed to the side but still the whole thing looks like a jet suprisingly. 8.5/10
Gimmicks - His sounds are very annoying (one of them sounds like a train the other gun fire, no voice sadly) so I just pulled the batteries. In all modes, his scorpion teeth move up and down manually. His "hyper power" is hidden launchers in his claws and tail (the latter of which is activated by sliding the minicon peg on the tail back, although it doesn't need a minicon) and they are great as they don't ruin the toy but add to it (unlike Armada). Another nice detail is the visor as when over his eyes, it magnfies them pretty well! VERY nice touch! . Also rotating guns on the legs. Good features that only add to the toy. 10/10
Overall this is a wonderful figure and a worthy sucessor to Megatron as Decepticon Emperor. 10
