Tidal Wave - Energon - Figure

Price Point: 24.99 (Ultra) Affiliation: Decepticon

Tidal Wave is back! The big guy is back in Energon in some fancy Navy Admiral colors and green transulent plastic. Is he worth buying if you have the Armada version? Read on....

Packaging is quite good, HUGE improvement over the Armada one as the Tidal Wave ships are lined up in a row and look nice and organized. The artwork is great as Tidal Wave looks like he's overflowing with power.

The colors look pretty good. I think they went with white as the primary color as in the Japanese version he's been refered to as an Admiral and since white is a Navy uniform color it makes sense. The green translucent plastic (which might represent Energon) looks fantastic, much better than the blah lime green Armada Tidal Wave got.

Since this is a repaint, Ill just make notes of what's new/touched up paint apps compared to the Armada version

Dark Fleet Mode - Great vecihles. Some notes on changes: the seats in the transport boat and the little hangar bay of Ramjet are green transulent plastic. Another nice touch is in Tranport mode more painted detail has been added. The lighting bolts on the Gunship and Aircraft carriers are applied well and look great (this was the thing I hated when I first saw pics but its not too bad). 4/5

Battleship Mode - The colors flow very well when combined. Looks alot more alive than Armada Tidal Wave. Holds togther well. 4/5

Robot Mode - One word for him: HUGE! He's even taller than Scoponok! His possability is pretty good but he lacks knees so that hurts him a bit. Once again the colors mesh perfectly and he looks so much better than Arm Tidal Wave and his safety orange.. 4/5

Gimmicks - Contrary to some rumors, he has NO electronics or lights at all. He still has his minicon gimmick of attaching Ramjet to the Jet and his guns move up and down. While we're on the subject of Ramjet he looks great as he looks almost like a mini G1 Starscream minus the red. Megatron 4/5

Transformation - Very easy. 3/5

Overall Tidal Wave was one of the bright spots of Armada as he had great modes and possability. In Energon though, he faces some much tougher competition and as a result he's not excatly a must buy. Still he is a great fig to own if you have the cash to spare as he looks much much better than Armada Tidal Wave. All hail Admiral Tidal Wave! Highly Recommended 4/5
