Iguanus TM2 - Beast Wars - Figure

The original Iguanus toys from the beginnings of the Beast Wars line was one of my favorite toys. I was excited to hear that they chose the same character (name anyway) to be included in the Transmetal 2 line. Needless to say, I was disappointed at the end product.

Beast Mode
Iguanus suffers from of number of annoying design flaws. The first comes from the frills around his neck in lizard form. The can pop off if you look at them funny. The second problem lies in the missile-launching gimmick. It causes you to be unable to close the lizard mouth completely while loaded and he looks just plain silly with it closed.

Transformation
Transformation isn't too complex, but there is one point worth noting that the instructions fail to mention. Make sure that the missile launcher is in the loaded position by pushing back on it. When you bring the lizard head into the robot back, push it in until it clicks. If this isn't done, the robot hips will not completely hook together.

Robot Mode
Once in robot mode, Iguanus seems a bit short for a deluxe sized Predacon. He stands only a fraction of an inch taller than Transmetal 2 Spittor who is a basic. While he does have some nice detailing to him, his robot mode, like his lizard form, is disappointing. His face details weren't painted except for his one eye and mouth, leaving it nearly completely dark, like looking into a dark room from a well-lit one. The rest of him isn't that much more exciting.

Overall
I don't really recommend this toy, though it does have a strong robot mode once you get past the lack of paint used on him. Iguanus is probably even still available in clearance section in your local Wal-Mart if you're inclined to pick him up.
