Spychanger Ironhide - Universe - Figure

What a great little G1 tribute!

I've had my eye on a few figures lately at Wal-mart, but been short on money. (No 20th anniversary Optimus for me just yet!) I had yet to buy any Universe figures, but a few caught my eye, despite the fact that I have the originals. Universe Side Burn and Prowl look very nice, and Sunstorm isn't bad, though I want the e-hobby version. Then I ran across the spychangers, which I had seen once... had to get Ironhide and Ultra Magnus, mainly for Ironhide.

This is a nice tribute, and the first Universe figures that I"ve purchased. Ironhide now has Trailbreaker's color and deco scheme. It's a very nice and unexpected move, and I'm surprised he wasn't renamed.

The actual robot is about the same. I haven't pulled RID Ironhide out to compare yet, but the bright yellow robot seems the same, and it contrasts with the dark brown of the truck. It struck me that Ironhide is now twice the robot in disguise he was: he's a robot that can disguise himself as a vehicle, but he goes further and disguises himself as another Transformer's vehicle mode.

One gripe, especially since misspelled words are a pet peeve of mine (not that I don't misspell a few myself occasionally, but still; these guys are professionals): the back of the truck reads 'Escort Vehical". Hasbro, it's "vehicle" not "vehical". Arrgh.

I might review Ultra Magnus later. He does look good in black, but Ironhide was the reason I picked this two pack up. I recommend it.
