X-Dimension Sea Team - Micron Legend - Figures

This team consists of Oceanglide, Stormcloud and Waterlog. I won these on Ebay along with the Japanese version of Tidal Wave, who has the primarily purple and grey color scheme. This mini-con team is colored to match Tidal Wave, and were not available in the US. In Japan they were named Sail, Float and Knot, but I will refer to them by their US names since that's how I know the figures.

I want to start with the packaging. The Japanese mini-con packs are put together a bit differently than the US versions. For starters, the plastic covers the entire face of the cardback, and wraps around about a quarter inch. This allow the cardback to be taken in and out rather easily, so the package can be re-used without damaging the plastic. The plastic bubble is the best part however, since it’s shaped like the mini-con storage panels from the show. A very nice bit of work. All three mini-cons are shown on the artwork.

The mini-cons themselves look pretty good. The vehicle modes are primarily purple, with yellow-orange highlights. I don’t care for the orange color, but the purple is very nice. The team’s projectile weapons are a light grey. All three can fire with a little pressure to the back of the missle.

Oceanglide’s robot mode is the oddest of the three. While the arms and legs are decent, and have ok articulation, the face is very strange. The entire back portion of the boat is his head, so it’s huge with a little face in the middle. This is one ugly little mini-con. He’s my least favorite of the three.

Stormcloud is a step up in the aesthetics department. He has the least orange on him of the three, which is a step in the right direction. There’s not a lot I can say about him that you can’t pick out from the picture, except that he’s a little back heavy. He has a balanced look, and is my second favorite of the three.

Waterlog is my favorite. He has G1 Seaspray’s vehicle mode, but a much more involved and satisfying transformation. The orange is confined to his visor and shoulders, and works well with the purple and grey. I think he’s the best of the three in this set.

I never got around to buying the Sea Team when Armada was out, so it’s nice to have them in an exclusive color scheme. They get points for matching with Tidal Wave as well, with whom they are associated in the MTMTE character profiles from Dreamwave. I’d give them a B+, a Transformer team for everyone, but has a few minor flaws. Those flaws being slight balance problems, and Oceanglide’s ugly head. Sorry bud.
