BT-11 Ravage - Binaltech - Figure

Robot Mode
Ravage sure looks like a saboteur ready to wreck some serious damage in his robot mode with his two hind missiles, pair of wrist-mounted guns and another gun formed by the engine block. The robot mode is very poseable and proportionate, nothing to pick on here. The main changes from Tracks would be the faction symbol, color scheme and the lack of a roof hanging off his back. Later on, more comparison with Tracks will be made.

The missiles are gray this time round and the tips are painted metallic red. This little addition does help prevent the missiles from looking too plastic in nature. The same red is also applied to his wrist-mounted guns. What I (and many other TF fans) would have like is for Ravage to have combat claws instead of those guns. It should not be that hard to have 2 or 3 spikes replacing those guns and would be a great tribute to his feline origins.

The Destron logo is in purple, its original color. However, this purple does not go down well with Ravage as it is also the focal point for his torso. It would have been really great but also highly unlikely for Takara to make an exception and made this logo in red. Above that logo is Ravage’s head. Ravage’s head sculpt is a stylized version of a big cat’s head, but very polygonal in nature. He bares two front fangs and with those red eyes, he does look menacing. His lower jaw is movable, even by just a bit, a surprisingly nice touch!

The back of Ravage’s head has a hole for the ball joint that allows his head to rotate skywards (refer to inset below) allowing him to look upwards. I have no idea why this is so, except it allows for the unofficial ‘beast’ mode variations. Tracks’ head cannot do the same which is some cause for wonder.

Below are front and back side-by-side shot of Tracks and Ravage:

From the front, the most noticeable change would be the enlargement of the Destron logo as compared to Tracks’ Cybertron logo. I think it would be better left at the same size.
From the rear, Ravage looks a little slimmer due to the fact that the roof is now removed. Actually, with the roof now gone, the missiles have a much wider range of rotation.

Verdict: 9/10 Articulated Transformer that looks great.. The only drawback would be care needed in transforming his legs to prevent scratches. Legs also are not that easy to ‘unfold’ from car mode.

Some fans have express dismay over a cat-like head on a humanoid body and regard this as an insult to the original G1 Ravage. However, consider asking an unbiased person, who has no knowledge of Transformers, which is more absurd: a cassette transforming into a jaguar, or a car turning into a humanoid robot with a cat head? His or her answer would most likely be both are as absurd. If you can get over that fact, Ravage is an excellent Transformer figure. His color scheme is also much nicer than both Tracks. If you are a completist, get Ravage without hesitation and you will be without disappointment. For one who has not gotten any of the Tracks mold and plan to get only one, Ravage is as good a choice if not better than Tracks. Besides a better color scheme and somehow glossier paint, I personally feel the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 looks better a convertible than a coupe. With that, I now leave you with an almost-necessary shot of Ravage giving in to nostalgia and trying to live out his G1 days all over again:
