Axalon Optimus Primal - BotCon 2006 - Figure

The centerpiece of the box set and the captain of the Axalon, Optimus Primal is here. He's the voyager of the group and is quite bulky. I always did wonder why they didn't use the dark Crumplezone mold for him and now that i have him i know why, it just wouldn't look as good the blaster and extra kibble wouldn't really work for him.

Alt mode:

Alt mode is a race car and a repaint of cybertron crumplezone. His colors are red, white, blue, and black as the main color. How wheels are translucent red, as is his cockpit. His exhaust pipes are white. His tail-fins are blue, and there is silver, blue, and white are all spread throughout in detailing. /His maximal symbol is near the cyber key hole on the upper back of the vehicle. The golden disk cyberkey key unlocks 2 missile launcher with the same sound as crumplezone. This is also the only figure in the box-set that has sound.

Robot Mode:

Definitely Optimus Primal. Period. He retains the same colors with a Lil more white because of his upper legs. Due to the mold he has an ape-like stature which i love because its primal. His remolded head looks really good, but they could have made it slightly bigger, there's still plenty of room for his head to move around. Inserting his key activates his missile launchers which are above each should, same as the beast wars version, it even has the same color missiles. The only thing he's missing are a pair of swords. The articulation is rather good, but not the best because of his missile launchers its prevents a few poses because of the lack of balance. Still a great figure.

Overall:

This is definitely optimus primal before beast wars, the mold they chose was perfect. The only problems he suffers from is a Lil too small head and his articulation due to the molds weight. I was surprised they let the sound-chip in there. My only other complaint is he doesn't have any swords, that would have made all the difference, but thanks to the universal fist size these days,it won't be hard to get them. His white and translucent red react to the black light. Totally awesome figure. With The box-set review complete, I'd say pick it up if ya like it, if ya don't then don't, but i grew up with beast wars more than g1 and i love this box-set. I will review the exclusives (laserbeak and buzzsaw, tigatron, and megatron and waspinator as soon as i can obtain them.
