Deluxe Bumblebee - Movie - Review

The countdown is now underway. With 6wks before the movie finally hits the bigscreen, the movie figures are now starting to find homes on store shelves. 6 Deluxe class figures are the first offerings being released. This series of reviews will start with Bumblebee. He is the first Autobot to travel to earth in order to gather reconnaissance.

Alt Mode

Bumblebee assumes the Alt mode of a 1976 Chevrolet Camaro. He is mostly yellow with twin black comp stripes running on the hood and trunk. The missiles used in Robot mode extrude from under the rear end as mufflers. Bumblebee isn't exactly pristine, either, as there are random signs of wear on the roof, front fenders and rear quarterpanels.

The design isn't exactly clean. Granted, this is a Deluxe figure. However, there are more seams than you can shake a stick at. This includes a cluttered looking hood and a nasty gap near the front of the doors. The tires also look rather cheap and out of place. Overall, though, the design is faithful to the 2nd generation of Camaro.

Transformation

As with most recent Transformers offerings, there is always a gimmick. For the movie lineup, this gimmick is known as Automorph Technology. There are certain points during transformation where it transforms itself. For Bumblebee, this is seen at the very first step. Press the rear of the cowl assembly and the whole front end flips down. The headlight assembly also protrudes. There is also another instance of automorph in the legs. Once the rear end is flipped up, pushing the backglass down extends the calves of the legs. One last note on the transformation process. When transforming this figure, which is pretty uncomplicated, make sure you fully lock the shoulders in place. Otherwise, the wheels will spin freely.

Robot Mode

Bumblebee retains his color scheme in robot mode, with black showing up on the limbs. An Autobot symbol also appears on his chest, although it is silver. He has missile launchers that can either be held in his hand or mount on his shoulders. This is why it's important to lock the shoulders in place. Otherwise, the launchers will spin around freely (and usually end up where you don't want them). An interesting note is that, while there are no license plates front or back in Alt mode, somehow a license plate ends up on his groin area. Perhaps a hint of what to expect with the Voyager mold?

Points of articulation are as follows. Feet: Rivet hinge, 135 degree rotation. Knees: screw hinge, 45 degree vertical rotation. Knee is also pegged for free horizontal range. Hips: Ball joints, 180 degree horizontal and 75 degree vertical rotation. Shoulders: Ball joints, unlimited horizontal and 90 degree vertical rotation. Elbows: Ball joints 90, degree vertical and unlimited horizontal rotation. Head: Ball joint, unlimited horizontal rotation. Articulation is set up very well and all the joints were stiff. Note that while the head can tilt forward and back, it might require adjusting the chest plate so it's aligned again.

Overall, this is a very nice figure. The seam lines in the Alt mode are a bit of a putoff, and the legs in robot mode are a bit gapped, but overall it is pleasing. Worth the $10 asking price.

My Score:
I did not have the hood problem that you all are having, but the doors did break on my figure easily. I bought another one because I am a big Bumblee fan--it is a toy, after all, and I''m not going to go crying to Target because I spent money on a novelty that broke (some people here need to grow up, seriously...).

The doors still fit onto the car in vehicle mode even when the joint is snapped (its that tight a fit) so simple solution--one always in robot mode, the other always in car mode.

My Score:
I got the Japenese version and it is well worth the extra $7.
Its windows are tinted blue and translucent while the back of the windshield also has the tint. The missiles are clear, translucent blue.

Actually guys if you connect the front of the car to the rest of the car.
That means you broke a peg that connects them.If you have that problem
check if anything is broken. I''m out :)

My Score:
ok, if u cant transform this guy back into a car, you probably did it wrong. this is what to do.....
1. connect his legs together, then put his feet in. make sure the part sticking out of the back of his legs is snaped on.
2. fold down the part with the windsheild and doors and snap it on. make sure doors are closed.
3. fold up the hood just a little bit so you can snap his arms on next to the doors.
4. slide the small hood piece (where the autobot symbol is in robot mode) back and turn the head around. now put up the hood and MAKE SURE TO SLIDE THE HEADLIGHTS BACK. you should have him in car mode now.

Anyway, on to my review. I think this is a pretty good figure, but if you dont have it yet, i really recomend waiting for the new camaro one which is going to be out later. overall, this is a pretty good transformer, but seeing the new one just makes this one not look as good. you could aso repaint his face so it will look like the one from the movie.

My Score:
Great toy! But I really don''t see the problem with transforming Bumblebee back to the Camaro.
So maybe some of the them are diferrent or no offense you can''t do it.I''m being damn honest
about transforming it too.

I have to change my score. I foudn him, and he will not transform back into car mode, as a few of you have already stated. This is total bs.

My Score:
mine has the super awesome "tilted front car mode" also....i think it''s from folding it down and not pressing the button.....i can actually see to the left of the back of his head, and near the "shoulder", where the plastic is worn. off to Target for a return. i JUST bought this about thirty minutes ago too....
if i can get one that doesn''t break, i think i will like this figure more than three stars.

The paint apps look pretty uneven. And what''s with those feet?? Still, I''ll give him a try. The face is pretty Furby-lookin'', but it grows on you.

I have the same problem griffon had. I transformed him to robot mode, but maybe i didnt push the button on the hood enough or something and something is wrong with it now, The front end will not connect. It seems to be slightly tilted downwards permanently. Unless someone can explain a fix for this, bumblebee will be going back to Target tomorrow...

well, same as with jazz... there won''t be a voyager version of this figure. neither will there be a deluxe ratchet or deluxe ironhide.

as far as i know.

griffin, you have to transform him EXACTLY in reverse. Transform the hood last, or else it will be "stuck"

My Score:
Once i transformed this figure I couldn''t transform it back because the automorph feature got stuck or the spring broke. Now I have a figure that won''t transform back to a car.

My Score:
Pretty cool, I can''t wait to get the movie figures. However, Bumblebee is on the bottom of my list, for I want Blackout, Brawl, and Barricade the most.
