The good new is that, slowly but surely, we are getting all the Starscream clones. The bad news? You have to split up the lot between two classes. Dirge joins Thundercracker for the Activator class lineup.
Greedy, grasping, and never satisfied, Dirge always hungers for more. More power. More fuel. More altitude. Whatever it is, Dirge wants all of it. He's another clone of Starscream who reveals the worst aspect of that fighter ace's ambition - the inability to ever be content with what he has.
At first glance, you might think you were packaged a Thundercracker activator. That's because Dirge uses a shade of blue more reminiscent of the G1 Thundercracker. The thing that will hint that you have Dirge are the wings, which best resemble strained carrot baby food in color.
Besides the wings, the coloration is pretty good. There's also some red and black to be spotted in various places. If you can get past the wings, you'll end up liking this one.
There are some hangups depending on how you try to pose this figure, but by far he has the best articulation of the Activator figures.
Transformation is identical to Starscream's. Fold his shoulder pads flat against his arms. Rotate his cannons so they face up. There are 2 tabs on the bottom of his wings. His arms have a slot that clip onto these tabs. Fold his feet, then fold his knees forward. Push the legs back to line them up with his back. Grab his cockpit and pull it out then up. Note the nosecone will fold out while you're pulling the cockpit up. Once the cockpit clips in place, clip the legs to the fuselage and fold up the tail fins. Note that when you activate from alt to robot form, the spring loading is faster than the nosecone. You might have to tuck the nosecone under manually to finish that process.
That khaki paint job on the wings? It now extends along the entire top fuselage of the jet. It really crashes up the look of the jet. If that wasn't enough, there's also a bright yellow strip where the activator button is located.
As with Starscream, the hands are visible in jet mode. However, you'll probably be too reproached by the gaudy paint job to notice.
