Santiago Cabrera Describes Transformers: The Last Knight Role In New Interview
RAC - Monday, January 23, 2017

Actor Santiago Cabrera has given an interview to Sabado, or Saturday, the weekly magazine of Chilean newspaper El Mercurio. He talks about the process of getting his part in Transformers: The Last Knight as well as some specifics of the role and the possibility of returning in the next film. Keep reading, but be advised of light SPOILERS.
Cabrera goes to a casting for a movie that interests him. While reading the script, the casting director - who already knew him - puts on a strange face, which he translates as "this role is not for you, but I like what you're doing." Then she says:

- I'll pass another project that may interest you: Transformers 5.

"Did he interest you immediately?" Did not prejudices arise?

"I acknowledge that I had prejudices. When she told me, and she is a director who does good-good things, in my mind was: "Transformers number how much?". I had not seen one.

Transformers 5: The Last Knight, which opens June 23, is Cabrera's first blockbuster. The film, he says, will be a huge showcase for him: one-fourth grossed over $ 1 billion worldwide and now similar figures are expected, with a cast featuring Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro and John Goodman.

-Transformers is an opportunity for an actor, because there is a possibility that your name is there and then open other doors or fund projects. But I was also interested in the archetype of the character and the work we did with the American special forces to prepare me. It was a great experience and is the biggest I've done, because they have also put me in the group of protagonists - says about the film in which he will play a retired military man who is now a mercenary and who leads a squadron called TRF that fights the Threat of the Transformers. If all goes well, he says, his character could be in the sixth part of the franchise.

In order to work on the film, which finished filming on December 10, the actor had to interview Michael Bay, director of the series and known for films such as Armageddon or Pearl Harbor. Initially, the meeting would be in his office, but at the last moment decided to do it at home. There they talked for a while in the garden, until Bay said:

"Let's do a couple of scenes, shall we read some?"

Cabrera was not expecting it.

I stopped, read the texts, told me a few things and then said, "Already, we are, now I have to go talk to Anthony Hopkins on Skype," and he left. From her reaction, I thought she had not been much impressed, but the casting director looked at me and thumbs up.

Twitter user Tagoal has posted some images of the Transformers: The Last Knight Optimus Prime Clear Version that was released recently to coincide with TF5's Japanese home video debut! Sporting a lot of clear white and blue plastic, this is the Voyager mold available on shelves now (still) in the Premier Edition. It's kind of a shame that basically every version of this mold looks more appealing than the stock retail release, but even that one is a pretty nice toy in and of itself. A recent feature list on the online version of Rolling Stone sought to line up the ten worst films of 2017, Many choices seemed quite fitting, with few at least marginally surprising even just for where they scored on the list, if not their presence there to start with. But it's probably not that much of a leap that they gave the number one spot on the list to none other than Transformers: The Last Knight. While some fans might point to it as being on the better end of the series, that speaks very little for its quality in the larger arena of movies in general. Keep reading for a quick excerpt and link back to the Rolling Stone page.
From the website of artist Furio Tedeschi we have some new pieces of The Last Knight concept art from various stages of design. What made this latest batch stand out as interesting was how a number of pieces, such as some of the knight designs, showed clear traces of what would go in to the toyline, possibly marking a few of these pieces as part of the starting point for the design of things like Dragonstorm. Another treat is a few photos of those knight designs as physical set elements from the sound stages - parts of which I personally got to view up close in August of 2016! Greg "M Sipher" Sepelak reported on Twitter that he found two of the presumed-Walmart Exclusive Transformers: The Last Knight "Autobots Unite" Two-Packs on sale at Ross! For those not familiar with the chain, Ross is one of a number of discount store chains in the US - along with TJ Maxx, Marshall's, and Ollie's - where Transformers items show up with a certain regularity. If you see them, a pair of Legion class figures will run you $5, and a pair of Turbo Changers will run you $12. Keep reading for the photographic proof, mirrored here for convenience.
